Terry G officially presents book of Ginjah to Charlyboy ahead of Abuja Concert [PHOTOS]

The Ginjah Master, Terry G, otherwise known as Terry
Gzus was at the Areafada’s New Wave Productions
office, Gwarinpa Abuja yesterday to officially present
his musical book of Ginjah to the enigmatic Charlyboy
whom he said was a strong pillar in the
entertainment industry.
Terry G, like other artistes who had paid homage to
the AreaFada prior to their various events, stormed
the Charlyboy’s multimedia office on Thursday,
alongside the Book of Ginjah concert theme, including
Ozone, the Tipsy Master.
According to Terry G, the Book of Ginjah concert will
be the first official launch of his latest album
tagged ,book of Ginjah, and because Charlyboy whom
he constantly referred to as his father, had supported
him through both rosy and turbulent times, the visit
to his office became extremely important.
He said “ My ‘craze’ like baba’s ‘craze’ is calculated,
organized and planned. If you haven’t seen the
similarity yet, then you are probably an alien in this
country. Fada has taught me how to be focused and
consistent in all I do. He has taught me not to be like
anyone else, but me. That has informed my unique
style, and now we are talking about the book of
Ginjah. The book of Ginjah is actually the launch of
my new Album which holds at the ThisDay Dome on
July 5, and all my artistes friends are expected to
support me. We are here to seek ‘ Fada’s support,
and by God’s grace, our aim has been achieved as he
is fully behind the event. He approved the event even
before we decided to visit. I will always remain loyal
to him.
Speaking, Charlyboy said “ Terry is like a Son, and
whatever we can do to support him, we will . Terry,
like some of us, has accepted the reality of life,
believing that the street dwellers are equally very
important in a stratified environment. He is one of
the few artistes who has not forgotten his roots.
Terry G’S concert holds at the ThisDay Dome, Abuja
on 5th July. The event is expected to parade heavy
weight of the entertainment industry, including
Timaya, Kcee, ChuddyK, Wande Coal, W4, Jaywon,
Solidstar, Samklef, Akpororo, Side One, Dj
Stramborella, Splash, Sym19, Denrele, and many

“If you can’t find me with marijuana, slow down on your assumptions” – Tonto Dikeh

Controversial actress and aspiring musician, Tonto
Dike may have gotten herself into trouble for posting
photos of hemps on the social media, as she may be
forced to answer some questions regarding the
unlawful act.
This is as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency,
NDLEA, on Friday said it would investigate the act.
Dikeh had on Thursday threw caution to the wind,
posting a photograph of a wrapped weed and another
which showed ‘Happy birthday POKO’ also formed with
weed. She also added an inscription, “Mi smoke ganja,
mi smoke weed, while my hatez smoke ma gossip.”
But NDLEA spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju, speaking
with the PUNCH, said the matter had been referred to
the appropriate Department of the Agency and would
be probed.
“Our attention has been drawn to the post quite
frankly and I can tell you that action will be taken on
it. The law is clear and NDLEA has been very clear on
the issue. No one is permitted to sell, use, cultivate
or encourage the use of Indian hemp in Nigeria. The
weed is one of the banned narcotics in the country,
Ofoyeju said.
“NDLEA Act Section 14 (b) states that any person who
conspires with, aids, abets, counsels, attempts to
commit or is an accessory to any act or offence
referred to in this act shall be guilty of an offence
under this act and liable on conviction to be
sentenced to imprisonment for a term not less than
15 years and not exceeding 25 years.
“Investigation has not started as of now, but
definitely, a step has to be taken on the matter.
Ignorance of the law is not an excuse; so, it is obvious
that the actress stands the risk of 15 years jail term.
The appropriate Department is meeting on the issue
for necessary action.”
The controversial diva, who shot to fame through her
roles in Nollywood, is known for her several indecent
acts, as well as love for drugs and alcohol.
The Future Awards in 2012 named her Actress of the
Year.

songs that turn Nigerian music industry around.

“I made no money from that hit record, i
just helped him with the beats”
Last weekend I read an interview by
Samklef, as record producer, he was
instrumental in ushering Afrobeat
dynamite – Wizkid to prominence. While
he got credits for producing hit-songs on
Wizkid’s debut album, he probably earned
no royalties from mechanical rights and
publishing. Amongst other interesting
thoughts expressed was his assertion that
due to the music industry’s lack of a viable
structure, record producers who do not
approach the business tactfully will get
broke in no time.
Ruminating on the interview and
considering the peculiar nature of the
music business in Nigeria, I attempt to
contextualize how the foul-tasting status
quo can be eased out to activate a new
rewarding landscape for Nigerian record
producers. To my mind, the music
business is speculative – what is termed
fashionable at an instance might just be
considered obsolete the very next minute.
It is therefore risky to approach same with
indifference.
Oftentimes, record producers get lost in
honing their craft; a serene mind and an
ambience that boosts a creative surge is all
they crave. In addition, creative
practitioners are not the best at minding
their businesses, it is therefore crucial that
they are aware of the trajectory of the
value chains relevant to their craft.In
Nigeria, they suffer unjustly, in spite of
the quantum of work committed to
creating beautiful music. They never get
the economic benefits or credits accruable.
This malaise could be attributed to sheer
ignorance, short-sightedness or the over-
hyped lack of a well-organized Industry.
The grim reality is that the recording
artistes are the only profiteers of the
success of a huge production; making huge
killings off live performances, tours,
endorsement deals, digital distribution and
sales because these modes of exploitation
are customary. On the flip-side record
producers barely exploit these productions
beyond the lump sum received as initial
payment.
It is safe to assert that record producers
legitimately own rights fixed in their
creations, and except same is assigned they
reserve copyrights in their works; the
right to use, duplicate, perform, distribute,
and sell.
NIGERIAN COPYRIGHT LAWS AND
OWNERSHIP
In Nigeria and globally, Copyright laws
provide protection for original works of
authorship by conferring certain exclusive
rights upon their creators. The realm of
music copyright is characterized by two
types of copyright holders; the holder of
the musical work and the holder of the
sound recording. The musical work
copyright holder is typically the one who
composes the piece of music while the
sound recording copyright holder is the
recorder of a rendition of the musical
work. It is almost impossible to have both
works (musical works and sound
recording) without the expertise of a
record producer. The question that lingers
then is why financial abundance is a rarity
amongst Nigerian record producers as
compared to their foreign counterparts?
SOME TIPS TO HELP RE-INVENT THE
WHEEL FOR RECORD PRODUCERS
Nigerian record producers should consider
the under-listed as condensed survival tips
in an uncertain terrain, incorporating
same to their operations will bolster their
prosperity as creative professionals.
Bracing up for the future: In this digital
era, the Nigerian Copyright Act is still at
the back footing as it is being rendered
obsolete by daily technological
advancement. Thus, record producers
have to be pro-active via contractual
documentations to optimize ownership of
copyrights in musical works and sound
recording, this allows for exploitation of
traditional streams of revenue (Publishing,
Mechanical Royalties and Performance
Royalties) and digital streams of income
from sales of Ring tones, Ring back tunes,
Spinlet, iTunes, YouTube, Vevo etc.
To assert ownership, they must keep a
record book detailing all works produced
in studio, name of Authors, title of the
works and the year of production. They
should endeavor to register same with the
Nigerian Copyrights Commission.
Education, Affiliations and Collaborations:
While it’s always more fun to spend time
in the studio, it is advisable that producers
do a bit of reading; this helps to discover,
befriend and collaborate with the power
brokers of the music industry
internationally and locally. A further step
would be to read up on various aspects of
the music business, technological
advancement and how it affects the
dynamics, as well as the new streams of
income that accrue to every stakeholder.
Legal Threshold: When production work
comes of age, big businesses will be
bandied in tones of contract documents.
Get help from an experienced Attorney,
there is a steady rise in the number of
Entertainment Lawyers wanting a piece of
the action in the Nigerian music
landscape.
Membership of Collecting Societies: It is
advised that producers register with
Performing Rights Societies in countries
where their music gets considerable
airtime. This would ensure that royalties
stream in from radio plays and public
performance of their music. International
agreements like the Berne Convention
guarantees that Collecting Societies of
member countries can collaborate in
collection of Royalties and repatriate same
to owners of the copyrights regardless of
where authors are domiciled. If domiciled
in Nigeria, start with the COSON and
gradually extend membership to other
countries.
Management: Music remains a team sport;
you need proven and trusted hands to
mind your business and help develop it. A
viable management in addition oversees
administration, pricing, placements,
marketing, branding and quality control. A
well managed production house could help
metamorphose into a record label.
Talent/Artiste Development: Seek and
develop new artists and reserve rights
from every work created, better still
safeguard your rights with an Artist
Development deal which ensures you
benefit in the event that a major Record
Label is interested in the talent you helped
nurture to prominence.
Production Projects: Record Producers can
produce, as chief executives, career
defining albums for their own benefits or
exclusively orchestrate albums of artistes
signed to other labels. Take a cue from ID
Cabasa, Cobhams, Sarz and Maleek Berry.
Credits: Notwithstanding how much is
earned as production fees, record
producers should drum it to the heavens
that they authored a production or co-
wrote same. The brilliance and ingenuity
expended on work should never be
ascribed to someone else. Do you wonder
why there are two versions of Wizkid’s
Sexy Mama?
On a final note, the business of music in
the 21st century is universal, its fluidity
across geographic boundaries is
occasioned by globalization and the super-
imposition of technological advancement.
Record producers as well as other creative
practitioners should be positioned to
benefit from this new reality.

The nominees for the 2013 Nigeria
Entertainment Awards were announced
yesterday at the nominee announcement
event held in Lagos, Nigeria at Euphoria
nightclub.
Pearl Hart of SoundcityTV and Freeze from
CoolFM radio’s The Road Show hosted the
event, which kicked off at 10pm with the
arrival of guests. Some of the artists in
attendance were Ice Prince, Funny Bone,
Jhybo, K9, DJ Spinall, KCee, Kswitch,
MSmooth to mention a few.
Representing for Nollywood and Gollywood
were Juliet Ibrahim, Ramsey Nouah, and Uti
Nwachukwu. Guests were treated to
performances by Emma Nyra, Eddie Kim,
Jhybo, Ketchup, and MSmooth.
The President of the NEA, Tope Esan
announced the nominees from all thirty-
four categories and some of the nominees
this year include Iyanya’s Kukere and K9’s
Kokoma for Hottest Single of the Year, Rita
Dominic, Genevieve Nnaji and Uche Jombo
for Best Lead Actress, Jesse Jagz, Ice Prince
and Vector for Best Rap Act and for Best
Comedian BasketMouth, Bovi and Senator
were also nominated. The nominee
announcement event is an opportunity for
all nominees to be celebrated in Nigeria
surrounded by their fellow industry peers,
and supporters before the official award
ceremony in New York.
Voting begins online on June 28 th . Fans are

Amstel, Tuface Campus Connect Ends With A Show Stopper In Lagos

The Indoor sports hall of the University of
Lagos was a beehive of heightened
performances by Nigeria’s hip hop super
stars as well as the huge turnout of
students to round up the thrilling Tuface
and friends campus connect tour sponsored
by Amstel Malt, the premium low sugar
malt drink from the stable of Nigerian
Breweries plc which played host to
Nigerian’s Afro hip hop singing sensation,
Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly called
Tuface, and other talented musicians.
The Campus Connect gig train which was
received in Benin City, Port Harcourt, Enugu
and Abuja had several budding and notable
artistes thrilling their fans. They include:
Ranson, Money B, Hype M.C, Efa, Young
Grace, 2Sec, Rocksteady, Damy Crane, Sheyi
Shay, Rough Coil, Vector, Solid Star, Phyno,
Sound Sultan and the winner of Amstel
Malta Show time in 2012, Same .
Music lovers in Lagos got more than they
bargained for as these music acts offered
interactive music renditions which drew
endless applause and joyful moments from
them. The mammoth crowd, comprising
students from University of Lagos, Yaba
College of Technology, Lagos State
Polytechnic and Adeniran Ogunsanya
College of Education Lagos defied the heavy
downpour to enjoy music performance by
Tuface and friends.
Speaking on behalf of the Brand Manager,
Amstel Malta, Miss Hannatu Ageni Yusuf
expressed her appreciation for the
impressive turn out and the outstanding
musical performances. “Amstel Malta has
always championed and advanced the
course of youths by encouraging them to be
the best that they can be. Tonight’s
performance is also a clear demonstration
of being able to connect to the University
students and the good people of Lagos”.
She added that “The Amstel Malta brand
has a penchant for promoting good values
in the youths in a bid to chart a good
course for Nigeria as a nation. TuFace and
his friends have been awesome and Amstel

interaction with Nigerian hip hop stars and

The audience received Tuface with
uncontrollable chants of excitement. Apart
from churning out some his iconic music
tracks, TuFace also pepped up his
performance with a repertoire of
chorographers while he perfected the act of
singing as well as skilfully manoeuvring his
lanky gait. With cans of Amstel Malta in
their hand, Tuface proved to his fans for
the umpteenth time why he is unarguably
one of Nigeria’s hottest musical exports to
the global scene.
The crowd cheered endlessly as 2Face
recreated his popular tracks with
improvisations. Tracks such as ‘For
instance’, ‘Bush meat’, ‘Nfana Ibaga’, ‘U no
holy pass’, ‘See me so’, ‘No shaking’, ‘Enter
the place’, ‘Implication’, and his hit track
from his recent‘ Away and Beyond’ album
tagged ‘Ihe neme’. Certainly, TuFace backed
by his friends lived up to his billing as one
of Nigeria’s top acts, he also provided the
undergraduates with the opportunity to be
the best they can be.

The Gifted is the upcoming third studio
album by American rapper Wale. The
album is scheduled to be released on
June 25, 2013 by Maybach Music
Group and Atlantic Records . The
album was supported by the hit single
" Bad" which has peaked at number 25
on the Billboard Hot 100 .
Background
On November 25, 2011, shortly after
the release of Ambition, Wale
announced on Twitter that he had
already begun working on his third
album.In November 2012, during
an interview with MTV Wale explained
he would be taking a new approach
with his third studio album, saying
He also explained that he would be
taking his time on the album, saying
"It’s not coming as quick as like a lot
of other projects. Self Made I could
just hit a beat, but now I’m like
‘Alright, I don’t like the strings. Take
that out. Let’s try this. I don’t like the
percussion so let’s change the snare.’ I
might be doing it myself on some of
the songs on there so it’s a little bit
different." In March 2013, when
speaking of his third studio album
Wale said, "I'm dropping my third solo
album first, then a couple months
after I'll probably drop the Nothing
project. I'm very creative, I'm knee
deep in that joint. It's kind of like a
persona; thing; I design my records
and the sound a certain way for two
different projects. Its going to have
one sound, very, very soulful" and the
first single, "Bad" is a pretty good
indication of the direction I'm going
for this project."
On March 20, 2013, during an
interview with MTV Wale explained why
he is tired of talking about music and
said that he is ready to let his music
speak for itself, saying "I'm not even
gonna do all that other stuff. I'ma talk
with the music. Until my album drop,
until June 25, I'ma talk loud with the
music, I've done everything I could do,
I've said everything I could say. I've
kissed the babies, I've shook the
hands now let's let the music talk
because I ain't about to come here
and tell y'all exactly how I feel no
more. I'ma let it all sing in the
music."The album cover was
released on May 15, 2013. Wale
along with famed Mr. Cartoon
designed the cover.
Release and promotion
On December 24, 2012, Wale released
a mixtape titled Folarin in promotion
of the album. It featured 21 tracks and
guest appearances from Rick Ross , 2
Chainz , Scarface , Nipsey Hussle,
Trinidad James, Hit-Boy , French
Montana, Jhené Aiko and Chrisette
Michele among others. Upon
release the mixtape received generally
positive reviews.
On March 20, 2013, he announced
that the album would be titled The
Gifted and would be released on June
25, 2013. On April 28, 2013, Wale
released the first of a series of vlogs
leading up to the release of the album.
Singles
On February 5, 2013, the first single
titled " Bad" featuring Tiara Thomas
was released as a digital download .
The song was originally released
on December 24, 2012, on Wale's
mixtape Folarin. The music video
was directed by Alexandre Moors and
premiered on March 20, 2013, on 106
& Park ."Bad" has so far peaked at
number 25 on the US Billboard Hot
100 , making it Wale's second top 40
entry after " Lotus Flower Bomb", and
becoming his highest-charting single as
a lead artist. [13] On May 21, 2013,
the second single "LoveHate Thing"

Globacom boss Mike Adenuga walks out on staff at 60th birthday bash

It does appear that CEO of telecom giants,
Mike Adenuga, does not like excessive
spotlight or lavish praise.
According to a report on Linda Ikeji’s blog,
the unassuming billionaire walked out of his
60th birthday bash, after loud encomiums
from Glo staff and others present.
The full report said:
This happened last night Friday May
3rd at Mike Adenuga Tower on Adeola
Odeku street in Victoria Island.
Hundreds of staff of telecoms giant
Globacom gathered at the lounge
situated on the ground floor of the
office building to celebrate with their
chairman after a text message was
passed round the office on Thursday
afternoon inviting staff to a birthday
bash with him. Mike Adenuga turned
60 on Monday April 29th.
Okey Bakassi was
there as the MC,
the DJ was
already playing music, drinks passed
round while people waited for the
billionaire businessman to arrive. Mike
Adenuga eventually showed up in his
Range Rover bullet proof SUV around
8pm. He graciously greeted people at
the entrance of the lounge but stopped
in his tracks as people started cheering
loudly as he entered the lounge.
The haling was so loud and probably
too much for Adenuga that he
immediately turned around and left the
lounge. He got into his car and left
with his security detail. He never came
back.
Glo staff waited for a few hours and
eventually left when they realized their
chairman was not coming back.

P-Square’s Paul Okoye abandons second baby mama in London hospital

Just few weeks ago that a woman, Anita
gave birth to a baby boy at Atlanta,
Georgia, USA, for Paul Okoye, one half of
the twin hip hop sensational singers,
Psquare, it has been revealed that another
lady recently gave birth to a bouncing baby
boy in a London hospital for the musician.
DailyPost however gathered that both
mother and child have been abandon by
the singer in the hospital.
According to information gathered from a
reliable source, the 19-year old mother of
the child, Elshama Benson Igbanoi, gave
birth to the boy at the Queen Charlotte and
Chelsea Hospital on Du Cane Road, London
W12 0HS, but it was revealed that Paul has
refused to claim paternal responsibility for
the baby boy.

Paul is making plans of
travelling down to London
to conduct a DNA test to ascertain
paternity of the baby boy.
However, Elshama’s father, Mr. Benson
Igbanoi stated that his daughter was
faithful to the musician.
The baby mama, Elshama also insisted that
she has never slept with any other man
except Paul, emphasising that she lost her
virginity to Paul Okoye when she was 17
years old.
It was also learnt that the London hospital
where she gave birth has not received any
payments.
“The hospital has been harassing both
Elshama and her mother to pay the hospital
bills of over £5,000 that have been
incurred,” said one source.

These are sad times for Nollywood
diminutive actor, Chinedu Ikedieze,
otherwise known as Aki who lost his father
yesterday to the cold hands of death.
The funny actor made the grieving
announcement through a broadcast
message on the blackberry instant
messaging platform.
“Hello everyone, I just lost
my dad” was his statement
through a broadcast on
Blackberry Messenger.
The cause of his father’s death has not yet
been revealed by the Imo State born actor,
but sources have however revealed that the
late actor’s father died after a brief illness.
Chinedu Ikedieze, MFR is a Nigerian actor.
He is best known for playing alongside his
screen partner, Osita Iheme. Their
breakthrough movie was Aki Na Ukwa.

Nigerian telecoms giant Globacom, has
revealed its new brand Ambassadors,
putting an end to all speculation about
which entertainers would be signed on.
DailyPost can authoritatively confirm that
some of today’s most gifted acts are on the
list, including Omawumi, Waje, Flavour, Bez
and Lynxxx.
While Omawumi, Waje,
Lynxxx and Flavour have
already been showcased in

follow. This was according to sources

On Saturday night (18 May), Africa’s finest took to the stage with a
‘Reincarnated’ Snoop Lion in front of a massive crowd of over 15 000
at People’s Park in Durban.
Snoop performed a selection of old and new tracks and was joined
on stage by the Africa All Stars at the end of his performance for a

Olamide Vs. Dagrin: Lyrically Examined

The progenitor of Yoruba Rap sub-genre of Naija Hip-hop is none
other than Lord of Ajasa but after he disappeared into thin air,
Dagrin stepped into the scene with his energetic rap and literally
took over the street. Until his untimely death, music aficionados
generally considered him to be the next big thing. Today, that next
big thing is Olamide, another Yoruba Rap crooner. ‘Eni Duro’, his
popular hit single, however came out before Dagrin’s death and my
reaction was wowish. I immediately realized some stuffs were
missing in Grin Baba’s lyrics; he hardly ever had any cause to go
surgical on his lyrics. Since Olamide’s lengthy freestyle, that is ‘Eni
Duro’, he has consistently stepped up his flow, dropped two LPs and
refused to get out of your face. Despite his determination which is
apparently paying off now, I believe like Dagrin, Olamide falls short
in the area of lyricism, though concealed by his perfect vocal ability
and swag. At the risk of annoying some of ya’all, let me shed light
on that real quick.
Wordplay and quotables
The impression both Olamide and Dagrin’s lyrics give is that they are
well-thought and thoroughly worked on. You and I know the magic
that did on their respective fan base. Dagrin played with Yoruba and
pidgin words and phrases easily no doubt and people loved it. For
the exact reason Olamide is admired even more today. I realise that
many of us get carried away by how they deliver their rhymes not
minding even if it’s to the detriment of the structure, richness and
stimulating effect of what they dish or dished out as the case may be.
Go through Dagrin’s discography, put sentiments aside and listen up
for quotables—popularly known as punchlines. What you’d definitely
pick out in his songs are lines I refer to as “pseudo-quotables”, stuff
that’ll make you say nice but never “oh shit”, stuff that’ll make you
nod but never pause, rewind and listen even more closely. You
wouldn’t consider something like “Omo naija mi o maga, mi o mugu/
Awon Ibo, won n fi mi sere bi Ugwu” a quotable, would you? What of
“Ashewo dey everywhere/even gay dey fear/say ashewo go collect all
the boys for this year”? That is just as basic as it gets. Olamide is no
different. I’m surprised that despite the level he has attained he
could come up with a rhyme like:
We are not around here but we are here to stay, immigration
Shout out to the whole of my soldiers, we’re taking over, invasion
Or something like: “You said razz like omo mushin Olosha/but now
you say I don fat like Wande Coal osha.” Punchy similes? Hell no.
Study some of his lyrics here and try to disprove me.
Rhyme techniques
One privilege enjoyed by new school musicians who employ Yoruba
lyrics is that most words in the Yoruba Language end in vowels. So
you rhyme easily. Dagrin’s main rhyme technique is basically a
combo of the said privilege and use of the perfect rhyme pattern.
See an example of one of the numerous perfect rhymes used in
‘Make Doe’: “Your flow is so fake like clown/Let me teach you how to
get down/We run this town”. And an illustration of the Yoruba
vowels privilege as seen in:
Te’n ba wo s’ole bus-stop e lo ma ti b’ole
Mi o le fight fun e, mi n kin se Oshiomole/ O le beree mole, or ko ko
mole/Lole, mo sha mope o o le wole.
Seriously, can’t anyone who one, knows nursery rhymes and two,
understands Yoruba pen all that? I mean, the height of lyricism in
any flow is revealed if it’s replete with alliteration, parallelism,
adroit internal rhymes and more of crafty “similar rhymes” (boo/
book) than “perfect rhymes” (book/cook). This ensures that the
messages in their rap are easily retained even when they try to be at
their crafty best. Study Olamide’s lyrics too and you could be
disappointed too by sighting too many perfect rhymes. Don’t be
surprised though, if you stumble on nice similar rhymes like:
Awon omo mi awon omo mi ni London
Awon omo mi l’america awon sturborn
Awon ti won ma twek l’ori you Tube
I know you love me, I love you too
I particularly like: “I can’t shout, oro po ninu iwe kobo/Body no be
firewood, mi o de n se robot”.
Content
Content, in hip-hop, refers to lyrical elements and how the message
(s) they help to convey. I remember how a popular artiste in one
the tributes composed to honour Dagrin made commendatory
references to the late rapper’s lyricism. And how after giving it a
thought, I was like “err…not quite”. You see, the essence of lyricism
is the overall message in a rapper’s flow and more of staying focused
on it than showing off the various lyrical elements he or she
employs in driving it home. But for a few exceptions, Dagrin often
gets too excited with his flows that he veers of the topic he’s
treating as revealed in some of the tracks on his CEO LP. The love I
have for ‘What They Want’ for instance is ruined by his proclivity to
digress. Olamide doesn’t digress as much as Dagrin but often burst
rhymes that seem to be relevant to his message but when carefully
reflected upon are disappointing. If you’ve listened to his two
albums, Olamide appears to be conscious of the end game of every
of his flows but usually punctuate them with stuff that just don’t add
up. Stuff like:
Mo ranti gbat’ orunmi gun bi t’Agani Darego
So many JAMB questions, se ni WAEC or na NECO
Buh me never hold back, eruku makanaki
Moni metal, moni torch, but mi o kin se Zaki
On the surface, there seems to be nothing wrong with the line above
but the success of the likes of Yeezus, Eminem and J-HOVA as
formidable lyricists is hinged on their ability to mask deep messages
beneath fly, nice-sounding yet seemingly mundane lyrics. Both
Dagrin and Olamide are lacking in that department.
The Wrap
“It’s a rap”, an expansion of the exclamation “word!”, is an informal
approval by hip-hop heads that a MC’s flow is flawless. No doubt,
you can’t help but get that feeling every time Olamide drops the mic.
He articulates his flow flawlessly like Dagrin. Also, credit has to be
given to him for using appropriate styles to deliver the messages he
passes across. In the same vein, Dagrin’s strength rests on his
versatility and delivery. Perhaps, the best rap I’ve heard from Naija
yet is ‘Pon Pon Pon’ because the energy on it is unprecedented and
almost supernatural. Olamide’s energy is equally amazing.
Unfortunately, imagine the timelessness their collection of works
would exude if they had serious depth in their lyrics. Dagrin’s ‘Ghetto
Dream’ and Olamide’s ‘Eni Duro’ are wonderful exceptions though. If
both artistes were examined based on the two songs (and a handful
of others), almost every point against their lyricism that I’ve labored
you with so far would be wrong. Alas, you’re a lyricist if only one or
two the songs you blessed with ephemeral contents are exceptions
to what you normally offer. I’m sorry people; our prolific yoruba rap
“legends”, the dead and the living, are the opposite of that.

Delta group praises Uduaghan, debunks allegations by Keyamo, others

A group of Delta leaders, The
People’s Movement, have refuted
allegations of corruption, oppression
and marginalization against Governor
Emmanuel Uduaghan.
The body on Tuesday said remarks by
rights activist and lawyer, Mr. Festus
Keyamo, the Delta State Chairman of
the Democratic People’s Party ,DPP,
Mr. Chukwugozie Ezeagwu, Chief
David Omoru and others on
Uduaghan’s performance were false.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the
group’s Director of Communications,
Mrs. Ibifuro Tatua, said the current
administration has provided the basic
infrastructure to stimulate growth
and development in the state, adding
that apart from running a
government based on honesty and
fairness, it is also propagating
peaceful co-existence through inter-
ethnic capacity building among
residents.
The statement reads in part: “In
Delta State, we have seen hopes
maturing to reality. War on crime has
been declared and that fight has
been won. The rule of law is
respected in Delta State. Public
servants are properly paid.”
“The government has put smiles on
the faces of the people by executing
policies and programmes that have
direct impact in the lives of the
people. The government has invested
in education, health; sports, rural
development, security and housing
and the benefits are there for all to
see.” it said.
They leaders commended Uduaghan
him for “nurturing popular
democracy, protecting life and
personal liberty, pursuing justice,
creating opportunities for the youth
and providing meaningful
developmental projects across the
state as well as ensuring equity and
fairness in appointment to political
offices.”
“For members of the Egbema
Progressive Network ,EPN, Egbema
for Positive Change ,EPC, the Isoko
Action Forum and some individuals to
say their people have been
marginalized and oppressed by a
man who runs a government that is
all inclusive and all-embracing, one
that excludes no one is to say the
least unbelievable and mischievous ”
the leaders said.
“Uduaghan appointed some Isoko and
Ijaw sons and daughters into key
positions of his administration. Many
schools are being built or
rehabilitated, solar electricity
provided, streets dualized and new
roads constructed in Isoko and Ijaw
areas. The Delta State University,
Oleh Campus and the Delta State
Polytechnic, Ozoro Campus are well
funded by the government. Uduaghan
wants to make Delta State stable and
prosperous. He is moving with great
zeal and vigour to make the
difference.”
The leaders advised Ijaw indigenes in
Warri North, the Urhobo leadership
of the People’s Democratic
Party ,PDP, in Warri South Local
Government Area and members of
the Isoko Action Forum to define the
objectives and strategies of their
political struggles more clearly than
degenerating to abuses, lies and wild
allegations.
Speaking further, the group noted
that “We have a Governor with a
listening ear. We have a Governor
that is committed to the development
of the state. We have a Governor
that is providing responsible,
accountable and transparent
leadership to the people. The avenue
of peaceful dialogue is still available
to the youth. These times require you
to use your influence to prevail on
the youths to desist from this
hopeless cause.”
They urged Deltans, irrespective of
tribe, religion or political difference
to give full support to Uduaghan’s
administration to enable him
complete his tenure smoothly and
successfully.

I did not kill anybody – Fayose

A former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr.
Ayo Fayose, yesterday dismissed the
rumour making the rounds that he
was a murderer, saying that his
political opponents were the people
behind the unfortunate rumour.
Speaking against the backdrop of the
renewed political crisis in the state,
and the rumour that he was behind
it, the former Governor said that the
rumour was part of a smear
campaign ahead of the 2014
governorship election in the state.
He said, “ My popularity in Ekiti
ahead of the 2014 governorship
election is a dilemma to my
opponents and that is why they are
looking for any opportunity to
blackmail me.
“I am not a murderer as they
claimed. Nobody or court has
arraigned me for murder in the last
seven years. Are we saying that the
system is not working.’’
Fayose said his political opponents
had nothing to use in campaigning
against him.
“It is all political gimmicks and
intrigues. They are running a failed
propaganda,’’ he said.
“Look at it again; there had been
renewed violence, attacks and killings
in Ekiti in the last couple of months
now just because people are
defecting from Action Congress of
Nigeria,CAN, to PDP to give me
support, ’’ he said.
He appealed to his supporters to
remain resolute and shun all acts
capable of heating up the polity.
