Four killed, police station razed as gunmen stormed Borno

Information reaching our news desk indicates that at least FOUR people have been confirmed dead while several others sustained various degrees of injury when gunmen, suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sects stormed a police station located in the Local Government headquarters of Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State. Eye witness account says the attackers stormed the local government, destroying a police station and the local government secretariat. Speaking with our correspondent over the phone, a man who pleaded anonymity said “it was not a good sight, as many of us ran away from our houses and took refuge in safer places. We have never experienced such in this local government, but I do not know if any civilian was killed. I know that four corpses of police officers have being conveyed in a vehicle to a hospital. Security is now beefed up around the local government and we also learnt that the police have made some arrests.” Another
man who spoke with our correspondent also disclosed that during the attacks, some of them locked themselves in their various homes, but were later advised by relatives to run out of their houses as it was no longer safe to remain in the house, hence they had to run out for their safety. The Borno state Police Commissioner Bala Hassan who confirmed the incident said “two policemen and one civilian were killed in the attack in Gubio local government.” The spokesman of the Joint Task Force, JTF, Operation Restore Order in Borno, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, told newsman when contacted that the Gubio incident does not fall within their jurisdiction, stating that it was a left for the police to give a detailed account on what transpired.
