Gunmen kill German hostage in Kano

Raupach Edgar, the German national who was kidnapped, was yesterday killed by his abductors in Kano State following a failed rescue mission by the Joint Task Force [JTF]. Edgar, an employee of Dantata and Sawoe, a Northern Nigeria- based construction firm was kidnapped at construction site in January this year. It was also reported that the foreigner died along with four other militants, that included a woman. Daily Post gathered that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, at the Danbare area of Rijiyar Zaki quarters when the JTF’s rescue team, comprising military men from Kaduna and Kano stormed the area It was learnt that residents in the west of the city ran for safety following gunfire between the kidnappers and the security operatives. But according to a
statement, released by the 3 Brigade, the kidnappers engaged in a gun duel with the security agents immediately they discovered they might be arrested. The statement reads in parts: “In the early hours of this morning (31/5/2012) precisely at about 0635 hours, based on intelligence of an ongoing meeting of senior commanders of the terrorists elements, the JTF raided an enclave near Bayero University Kano new site, where the terrorists senior commanders were meeting.” “On sighting the security forces, the terrorist elements opened fire and threw Improvised Explosive Devises on the security forces. The security forces responded immediately resulting in a gun duel that lasted for about thirty minutes. During the encounter four of the terrorists were killed. “Upon search of the premises, the security forces, found the hand- cuffed and gruesomely murdered corpse of an expatriate, later identified as the German national, Raufach Edgar, who was kidnapped on January 26, 2012 along Zaria bye pass Kano. The German was apparently killed by the terrorists on noticing the security forces.”
