FaroukGate: Jagaba writes Police, denies involvement in bribe money

House Committee Chairman on Narcotics, Anti-corruption and National Values, Adams Jagaba, has written to the Inspector-General of Police, denying being given $620,000 bribe money allegedly collected from Femi Otedola by Farouk Lawan, the embattled former Chairman of the House Committee on Fuel Subsidy. Jagaba had denied that nobody in his committee has had any idea about the said money before Otedola revealed the scandal, stating further, he said neither him nor his committee had seen the money that Lawan claimed to have handed over to him on the 24th of April this year. Jagaba had written in response to the recent invitation he got from the Special Task Force investigating the bribery scam to appear before it. The Police had earlier in their letter to the Speaker of the House, Aminu Tambuwal
demanded that Jagaba appears before the Special Task Force to defend himself against Lawan’s claim that the bribe money was handed over to him. Instead of appearing in person as indicated in the police letter, Jagada had decided to write to the police, stating that neither him nor any of his committee members had any knowledge of the said bribe allegation. A source close to the police had revealed thus “In his letter to the police, Jagaba categorically denied that neither him nor any member of his committee collected the exhibit from Lawan, Investigators are back to square one on the question of the money which Lawan, in his statement, claimed he gave to Jagaba,” . The police had again written another letter to Tambuwal drawing his attention to their their demand to speak with other members of the adhoc committee on fuel subsidy. The new letter as learnt by our correspondent had asked the Speaker to ensure that the members appear before the STF on or before June 27, 2012 (Wednesday).
