Ondo Gubernatorial Poll: Oke emerges as PDP’s candidate

The Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday adopted the former National Legal Adviser of the party, Chief Olusola Oke as its Governorship Candidate for the forthcoming October 20, gubernatorial election in the state through a consensus arraignment. The party said that it adopted consensus method to pick its candidate in order to prevent crisis that usually occur in party after primaries election. It noted that 90-member committee comprising five from each 18 local governments were set up by the party to screen the ten aspirants for the party ticket. The party said Oke would officially be announced as the PDP flagbearer at party congress which would come up on July 21 this year. Speaking with reporters in Akure, the State Capital, the PDP state Chairman, Hon. Ebenezer Alabi said the committee after their screen, submitted their report and another committee representing
one each from the council met and agreed on Oke. Other aspirants who lost the party ticket to Oke were the Former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Victor Olabimtan, former Head ofService, Comrade Alaba Isijola, a 41 year old business mogul, Moyosola Niran-Oladunni, Others were former Military administrator of Akwa- Ibom, Prince Joseph Adewusi,former Commissioner for Health, Dr Dare Bada, Mr Ajibola Adeyeye, Mr Mackson Medoye and Hon Demola Ijabiyi, a former Campaign Manager of the late sage and former governor Adekunle Ajasin and Business Mogul Jimoh Ibrahim. However, the Chairman said the party is yet to pick the governorship candidate running mate, they have not agreed on where the position should be zoned to. On the possibility of any of the aggrieved aspirants going to court on the decision, the chairman said that all the ten aspirants and the party leadership have agreed that none of them would challenge the outcome of the committee. Alabi added that they all signed a memorandum of understanding that none of them would defect to another political party or go to court to challenge the decision of the committee.
