Boat mishap: NEMA intensifies rescue operations, recovers nine bodies

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA,
has confirmed that it has recovered nine bodies from
a boat that capsized at 40 nautical miles off the coast
of Calabar, Cross River State, South-south Nigeria.
The boat reportedly left on Friday from the remote
town of Oron in Akwa- Ibom state and was heading
across the Gulf of Guinea to Gabon, in Central Africa.
A text message to Dailypost on Tuesday night by
NEMA Head of Public Relations, Yushau Shuaib, said
two survivors have been taken to the University
Teaching Hospital in Calabar.
The spokesman added that rescue operations are
ongoing.
