Gay Story: Daily Independent retracts story, apologises to Charly Boy

After the outcry of Charlyboy over the story published by two national dailies, alleging that he had claimed to be gay and head of Illuminati in Nigeria, and having warned that the story be retracted or take up court action against the concerned newspapers, Daily Independent has today accepted that the story was published on its website retracted it with an immediate effect while also apologizing to the Areafada for such unverified news. The retraction reads: ”A story titled ‘Charly Boy Confesses he is gay and head of illuminati’ was published on our website on Saturday, May 26, 2012. The report was from an interview believed to have been granted another magazine. Mr Charles Oputa, a.k.a Charly Boy, has however denied granting any such interview and denied all the claims
therein. We therefore retract the story in its entirety and sincerely apologize for the embarrassment our publication may have caused him.” It was signed by the editor of Daily Independent. It will be recalled that daily independent and National Mirror had published a story quoting one Danfo Express where Charlyboy had claimed to be gay and head of Nigeria’s Illuminati. The news that angered Charlyboy had prompted several letters from Charlyboy’s lawyers to the concerned papers to either do a retraction or face court action.
