Mr. Henry Okah who is currently under detention has in an affidavit to be filed in South Africa, indicted the Nigerian Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Dieziani Allison on how she lobbied for the position of the Nigerian petroleum Minister. Okah had claimed that barely one week of Jonathan’s inauguration, Mrs. Madueke had begged him up to twenty times to help negotiate on her behalf in the presidency.
In her calls, Ms. Madueke explained that she “was competing for the post of the Minister of Petroleum with the now Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr, Odein Ajumogobia,” and asked for assistance “to tip the scale in her favor.”
Mr. Henry Okah had claimed in the 42-page affidavit submitted that , Mrs. Madueke unambiguously asked him to negotiate with Mr. President “put a good word for her,” furnishing him with up to date information on the president’s availability via calls and text messages.
As claimed, Mr. Okah then spoke to President Jonathan in the early hours of April 5, 2010, and on confirmation, Madueke returned an appreciation call, thanking Okah for a job well done, and for influencing the president on her appointment.
In the affidavit, Okah says that he hesitantly accepted to speak to Ms. Madueke after having been told by the now presidential adviser, Mr. Oronto Douglas, who disclosed to him on how Madueke was desperate to speak to him ( Oka).
The affidavit asserted that “In March of 2010, Jonathan had asked Mr. Douglas to meet Okah in South Africa. During their meeting, which held between March 31 and April 1, Mr. Douglas had briefed Okah on how the Northern leaders were working towards frustrating the ambition of Mr. Jonathan from becoming the president of Nigeria.
Okah who has been in South African prison since 2010 has been accused of masterminding the Independence Day bombing of the Eagle Square in Abuja. Okah is facing charges that Chima Orlu, who allegedly supervised the operation, acted under his instructions. .
In his new affidavit, Mr. Okah had stated that on the day of the bombing, he received a call from Mr. Moses Jituboh, the Head of Personal Security to President Jonathan, asking his to cooperate with Mr. President on the bombing issue and to shift the blame to the North.
Okah is currently facing trial at South Gauteng High Court that is estimated to last over 18 months, and has appealed for a bail considering that the case against him lacks substantial evidence.
Further hearing on the case would start on October 1, 2012 when Okah must have spent 2 years in jail. While the Nigerian government is determined to pin Okah down with every available evidence and witness, Okah on the other side is said to be ready to present all proofs of his latest affidavit and is equally ready to bring over 100 witnesses to the court.
