“Embrace dialogue now or face fire for fire” – Gowon warns Boko Haram

Former military Head of State, General Gowon has called on the Boko Haram sect to embrace peace in order for peace to reign in the country. Gowon made this call on Wednesday while speaking at the opening of the Education Summit organized by the Oyo State Government in Ibadan, the state capital. Physically angry Gowon affirmed that it is either the fundamentalist Boko Haram embrace dialogue or face fire for fire. He said, “Do you know how much it takes a responsible government to tackle terrorism any where in the world? The government is trying its best,” he stated just as he submitted that “this thing cannot be done overnight”. While condemning the insurgencies of the sect, General Gown urged them to lay down their arms and let peace reign in the country. ‘”A lot of people have been killed and several others maimed as a result of the sect’s actions, but we pray that they embrace dialogue because we can not continue like this,” he said. General Gown stated that Nigerians do not want the international communities to tag Nigeria as terrorist nation, stressing that many well-meaning Nigerians had appealed and were still appealing to the Boko Haram to lay down arms and embrace dialogue with the Federal Government.
