Karen Igho Not Engaged To Get Married

This just in from Karen Igho’s camp. She is not engaged, and is quickly diffusing rumors that she is engaged. A few weeks ago, Karen posted a picture of a ring on her finger on twitter, and made a comment that suggested that she was proposed to. Here is a press release from her reps: We have followed with intrigue in the past few days, rumours and gist circulating on the supposed ‘Engagement of Ms Karen Igho to a Mystery man’ following her tweets on Twitter. Ms Karen Igho has requested that this news statement be made available to the public on the matter. Ms Igho appreciates the curiosity and goodwill displayed by her fans, critics and friends in the media regarding her affairs; she however prefers to keep details on her ‘relationship’ intentions away from the public glare until when appropriate. However, to clear the air on the alleged tweets, they were random thoughts from Ms Karen Igho after an admirer and fan proposed to her. Celebrities often experience the same thing; Ms Igho only tweeted about one of such experience randomly. In the meantime, Ms Karen Igho is actively evolving her brand name and business while taking on active roles in Nollywood and other related entertainment initiatives across Africa. Hence, Ms Karen Igho reaffirms, “I am not married yet; but I am fully engaged to my passion in entertainment – acting and modeling; while actively promoting good causes and charity”.

We’ve got his sim! Investigators recover THISDAY suicide bomber’s cellphone

Investigators have recovered the cell-phone of the suicide bomber that attacked the office of ThisDayin the Jabi area of Abuja on Thursday. The charred phone was among the items that were picked up by security agents, who examined the remnants of the Isuzu Sports Utility Vehicle used by the bomber in carrying out his deadly mission. Apart from the phone, bomb fragments and other clues were extracted from the wreckage of the vehicle for forensic analysis. A source told our correspondent that a forensic analysis of the SIM card content would be done to provide clues to the identity of the bomber and the conversations that he might have had with his accomplices and sponsors before setting out for his target. The source said, “The recovery of the burnt phone is a boost to ongoing investigation of the incident. We can only hope that the SIM card is not damaged in the blast. If it is intact and we explore it, we should be able to extract useful information from it.” SATURDAY PUNCH investigations show that the attacks on the media house by suspected members of the Jama’tu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad sect, also known as Boko Haram, has put severe pressure on security agencies in the country. The ease with which the bomber was able to penetrate the Federal Capital Territory, in spite of the deployment of sophisticated equipment by security forces and the existence of many security checkpoints across the city, is giving the Federal Government a cause for concern. The government was said to be disappointed with the security agencies over Thursday’s twin attacks on the offices of the This Day and The Moment newspapers, especially the attack on Abuja, which showed that security in Abuja was not as water-tight as the security chiefs had claimed. A senior security officer told our correspondent that the acquisition of hi-tech equipment had given the government confidence that Boko Haram would not be able to access and attack any target in Abuja. The source said it was widely believed in official circles that high-profile equipment deployed at the entrance and exit points of the FCT, as well as potential targets, such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Towers and the Force Headquarters, would have detected Improvised Explosive Devices hidden in vehicles. Armed with this information, as well as additional intelligence from the security agencies, the Federal Government had given assurance to the international community that it would overcome the security crisis in the country by June, 2012.

Ramsey Nouah to quit acting

By Ernest Dela Aglanu One of Africa’s brightest movie stars, Ramsey Nouah has disclosed that he is on the verge of bowing out of his cherished love, acting, after about two decades on the silver screen. The actor made his breakthrough into one of the world’s biggest movie industries, Nollywood, after auditioning and earning a role in the television series, Fortunes, in 1991. About two decades down the line and starring in several well-known productions, Ramsey Nouah wants to say bye-bye although many think he is still in his prime. The actor made this astonishing revelation during an interview with Joseph Akahome of Nigerian Entertainment Today. According to him, “I think I’ve had my fair share. To my fans and loved ones, I know they’ll always want to see me on screen, but as they say, it’s best to leave when the ovation is loudest. I want to leave a very strong legacy. I believe I have left a very strong imprint in that line. There’s no possible way you can mention ‘Nollywood’ without mentioning Ramsey Nouah.” He however revealed that all is not lost as he will not abandoning the movie industry entirely. Ramsey wants to spend the future behind the scenes: “Well, I’ll be going behind the scenes. I’ll still be acting a bit here and there, but it will phase out for directing eventually. For a while now, I’ve not really been on the screen, and that’s because I don’t want to act just because I want to be on TV. “I only want to be associated with the kind of movies that are poised to take the industry to another level, which is where we are headed now. Plus, I want to focus on working behind the scenes.” Apart from being behind the scenes, Ramsey born in Edo, Nigeria to an Israeli father and a Yoruba mother, said he will also be dedicating his time to humanitarian activities and charitable ventures. “I started a project at one point in time, but due to circumstances I wasn’t able to see it through, so it didn’t see the light of day, but I’m working on that now and getting the resources together. Like I said, I grew up not having much, so I know the pains. Sometimes you want to help, but greedy people hijack it and in the end, the people who really need the help don’t get it.” Born Ramsey Tokunbo Nouah Jr, in 16 July 1973, he has starred in several productions such as A Private Storm, Hidden Treasure, True Sacrifice, Last Faculty, Governor’s Wife, Dangerous Twins, and Figurine which earned him Best Actor in a Leading Role award at the 2010 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

Emeka Ike writes Oshiomhole, wants AGN election stopped

Trouble is currently brewing in Nollywood as the long awaited general election of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), holding today, at Baden Hotel, Sapele Road, Benin City, may suffer a setback, as actor Emeka Ike has called on Governor Adams Oshiomole to immediately stop the election. In a letter written to Oshiomole through his counsel, Mr. Malcolm Omirhobo and dated 23rd of April, 2012, Emeka Ike urged governor Oshiomole to disassociate his state from the election so as not to be used and seen as accomplices in the violation of the rule of law, which according to him remains the cornerstone of his administration. The letter entitled “Actors Guild of Nigeria Election in Benin City, A Violation of Court Order in the context of suit No FHC/CS/365/2011, between Emeka Ike and the Incorporated Trustees of Actors Guild of Nigeria” reads in parts; “We humbly wish to draw your attention to a subsisting court order in the above mentioned suit; ordering the Actors’ guild and all parties thereto to maintain status quo pending the determination of the substantive suit.” “The said court order was issued by Honourable Justice J.T Tsoho of the Federal High Court, sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State. We are aware that the defendants in the suit have concluded plans to conduct the general election of the guild in Benin, Edo State capital on Friday, April 27, 2012, in violation of the said unequivocal Order of the court.’ “The action of the guild and her officers is a clear affront on the rule of law and insult on the collective sensibility of the government of Edo State and her good people.” Emeka Ike’s counsel however vows to commence contempt of court proceedings and commit to prison, any member of the guild who violates the court’s order by going ahead to conduct the election. The actor had gone to court two years ago to challenge the leadership of Segun Arinze as the AGN president. His case was struck out in March, last year on technical grounds. But six months after, he returned to the court room to continue the legal battle. In a court order signed by the presiding judge of the Federal High Court, Sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, J.T Tsoho, the court warned both parties to maintain the status quo, pending when the case will be determined.

AMAA: Fighting Credibility Battle?

The 8th edition of the Africa Movies Academy Awards (AMAA) may have come and gone but the memories of it linger on. For the first time, the awards event, which is always seen as Africa’s Oscar, was held in Lagos, the centre of Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Some who won the cherished award are still swimming in the euphoria of beating others to win it while the gallant losers have taken fate. But one thing some stakeholders in the film industry would love the organisers to tackle is its credibility. There is no doubt that AMAA is presently facing a credibility battle. In Ghana, the Ghana Movie Awards (GMA) is more respected than AMAA. The reason for this is because they believe that AMAA tends to go by the common adage ‘he who pays the piper calls the tune.’ Their argument is that a Nigerian cannot own AMAA and remains unbiased in choosing its winners. Another problem killing AMAA’s credibility is the nomination of some yet-to-be premiered movies for AMAA. Those against that policy believe that it is not enough for a few particular set people to review a movie and puts such for AMAA nomination. They believe that Africa Film Academy, the body responsible for AMAA nominations should make movies nominated AMAA be movies already released or premiered for public viewing withing a particular timeline or time frame. This they believe will stop controversies yet-to-be released movie create. Adesuwa got 10 nominations while it was still battling with when to get a press screening. Now, it has won three awards and it is to be premiered on May 4 while its press screening was done in late March 2012. For AMAA not to experience a break away, it needs to quickly work on its credibility so as to make the awards institution a truly African pride.

Thisday Bomb blast: How the Suicide Bomber Succeeded

The Jabi Office of the foremost Nigerian Newspaper, Thisday was rocked by bomb , 11 am this morning. At least about 6 people have been confirmed dead while several orders are said to have sustained various degree of injuries in a blast that hit the offices of Thisday in both Kaduna and Abuja . Speaking with newsmen at the Thisday Office in Jabi- Abuja, after the blast, the Editorial Chairman of the board confirmed that the explosion at the newspaper office was a suicide attack. According to him “The suicide bomber came in a jeep, “(Security guards) opened the gate for them … The guy drove in through the gate and rammed into the building and exploded.” According to him, two of the guards were killed in the blast alongside the bomber. Five other supporting staff was seriously injured. “Fortunately the newsroom is a bit far from the back of the building, so all the people in the newsroom … are all safe.” He disclosed. Investigation is currently on to ascertain the original source of the blast. But presently, people are beginning to point accusing fingers at the Islamist sect, Boko Haram. While the Thisday family mourns the dead of their workers and colleagues, some Nigerians are beginning to call for the immediate resignation of the Nigerian president for failing to attack the Boko Haram insurgence in the country. Also comments on twitter and other social sites have indicated that Nigerians, especially residents of the federal capital territory are angry. Jonathan should please resign” Another internet user, Mr. Otito also vented his anger on Mr. President in his comment “The Americans told us. Rather than prepare for it, the Nigerian government is saying otherwise. Oil probe: Suggestion on Minister’s Resignation Failed

Efforts by some members of the House of Representatives yesterday to move for the indictment of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Deziani Allison Maduekwe for the role she played in the utilization of the Subsidy regime failed even though the house adopted the Faruk Lawan- led committee’s recommendations. In a point raised by Hon. Robinson Uwah , he had informed the House that after Tuesday’s session, the calls he got from Nigerians, and particularly his constituency were accusing the house of protecting the Petroleum Minister. He then called on the resignation of the Petroleum Minister which many members supported. On the contrary, the Deputy House Leader, Hon. Leo Ogor debunked the point raised, stating that the point of order raised by Hon. Uwah was out of procedure as the House was still deliberating on the report of the committee. The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha had also warned the house to desist from witch hunting people in order to receive a well deserved credit at the end of the entire probe. His ruling did not stop another member of the House; Hon. Benjamin Aboho from raising the matter as he insisted that the Minister of Petroleum Resources should be indicted for her inability to handle in the most honest and professional way, the subsidy regime. His point was equally ruled out of order. The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon Zakari Mohammed said “the recommendation that the management of NNPC should be overhauled addressed the issue of the minister, who is the chairman of the board, therefore it will be wrong to insinuate that she is exonerated. Remember, the objective of this report is not to witch hunt anybody but to state facts as they are”

Hottest 7 Nigerian Artistes Without An Album

The success of several artistes in the Nigerian contemporary music scene of recent has proven time and again that an artiste does not need to have an album to his name before he/she “blows”. We have seen singers and rappers ride on the “rep” only one successful single or even a feature on someone else’s song has given them for up to 2 years before they eventually release an album or sometimes even move into obscurity- The so called “One Hit Wonders”- but that will be a topic for another day. Today we bring to your reading pleasure a list of 7 hot household names on the Nigerian music scene that are yet to have an album to their names.

 7. May D The Square Records act first hit our eardrums on P-Square’s massive hit single “chop my money” which he featured on and a host of other songs which he either featured on or provided backup vocals to on P-Square’s Invasion album, then came his first single, “soundtrack” which has enjoyed heavy rotation on radio stations and which also has a befittingly “hot” video. May D has gone from “grass to grace” within a short time in the industry and the future looks bright for him as his second single “ile ijo” too is doing very well.

 6. Yung6ix The self-acclaimed and recently MI certified “King of the South” has a mix tape and a number of singles to his credit but no album to show for his sojourn in the Nigerian Music Industry yet. It also seems unlikely that 2012 will be the year for his debut album as there is no word or sign of it but who knows, the storm records artiste can decide to surprise us, after all, isn’t that what Kings do?

 5. D’Prince Say what you will about his style of music, “Omo-oba” has had a very visible presence in the Industry for the past 3 years now but somehow we still haven’t seen an album from him. It remains to be seen how much the recent breakup of his record label, Mo’Hits Records, will affect his career but with ace producer and brother, Don Jazzy by his side, it doesn’t seem like things will go amiss. It’s still a jonzing world………..

4. Brymo A monster hit song like “Oleku” was the best kick-off to a career anyone could get, and Brymo rode that tide of fame alongside Ice Prince with some critics even insisting that he made the song what it is. The success of “Oleku” in 2010 earned him features on a plethora of other songs and he has even become known as a Chorus/Hook Master. Providence was however not yet through with Brymo as his first single on the Chocolate City imprint “Ara/Wonders” also became a massive hit. He has subsequently followed up with another single “Good morning” and 2012 doesn’t seem to be too unlikey to be the year we will see Brymo’s first album.

 3. Skales EME’s rapper cum singer has been all manner of hot since we first heard his name about 2 years ago but still “S to da K” doesn’t have an album out yet. Anyone who has been a fan of his music will know that the amount of freestyles and features he has had on songs of other artistes is enough to fill an album on its own. We may see an album from Skales in 2012 but it seems he is also working on a collaboration album with label mates, Wizkid and Banky W. Details of whether that will delay his own album remains shady but even without an album, Skales stays making good music.

2. Tiwa Savage She literally came out of nowhere with “Kele Kele” in 2010 and was a breath of fresh air in an industry that was and is still to some extent lacking in truly talented divas. Her 2 subsequent singles “Love me” and “Without my heart” on which she managed to feature Don Jazzy who rarely collaborates with artistes outside his record label, have also been very well received. An album from Tiwa Savage anytime will certainly be received with a lot of ovation.

 1. Davido Just hearing the first 5 seconds of the super-mega-monster hit single, “Damiduro” has been known to drive people into a wild and crazy frenzy in clubs and live shows, that’s how “baaadt” Davido is right now. After self-producing the hit single, “Back when”, those who thought Davido was just a flash in the pan were stunned by “Damiduro” which the multi-talented artiste also produced himself. When one considers the fact that Davido has only 3 singles to his credit, the level of his success is truly astonishing and from all indications, his fortunes don’t seem like dwindling anytime soon. Why not 10? Resisting the urge to include 2 or 3 more names to round off the list wasn’t easy but populating the list with every artiste with one or two fairly successful songs isn’t the general idea so we chose to stick to the main focus of this piece which is to bring to the fore front artistes who have become so popular that it is surprising to recall that they don’t yet have an album. Artistes who could compete for the last 3 slots if this list had been up to 10 are Serengeti Music’s Lamba King- Hakym, Flowssick whose hit single “lowkey” has received massive airplay on radio and TV, Waje, Hypertek’s Dammy Krane, Eva and Muna. Keep supporting Nigerian music.

Oil Probe- Jonathan Vows to deal with Culprits

President Goodluck Jonathan had declared yesterday that those found wanting in the report of the House of Representatives Committee that examined the implementation of the subsidy regime in Nigeria will not be spared in any way. He promised that anybody or group of people indicted would be dealt with decisively. The House has yesterday received support from the People’s Democratic Party over its investigation and promise to stand by the house in its attempt to stamp out corruption. Meanwhile, the house has called for the immediate persecution of Ahmadu Ali, the former PPPRA boss over subsidy scam and the PDP is quite at home with the entire development. In a related term, President Jonathan who spoke through his Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Joy Emodi in a press briefing yesterday had assured Nigerians that everybody who was indicted in the oil sector would be dealt with, no matter the status. When asked if President Jonathan was worried over the development, Emodi responded thus: “No, no, no, no. Mr. President initiated the move to rid the petroleum industry of the rot because the bane of this society today, the bane of maladministration in the petroleum sector is nothing, but corruption. “The fact that he appointed a person like Mallam Nuhu Ribadu to head another panel looking into the rot is a clear manifestation that Mr. President is determined to rid the sector of corruption, he is not going to spare anybody, if not why would he go and appoint Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the ex-EFCC chairman and his very rival in the last presidential election? I am sure that he is not going to spare anybody found wanting and there are no moves to distort the report. I am the Special Adviser to Mr President on National Assembly Matters, any slightest moves here of course, I would be the channel. You know it. So I am sure that no move is being made and Mr. President has zero tolerance for corruption. “So, I can assure you that nobody is going to interfere with the report but you have to look at the people he selected to look into the rot in the system – men and women of proven integrity. As this one is happening here another investigative panel is also taking place in the executive arm. Mr President is on the same page with the members of the National Assembly to rid the society especially the oil sector of the rot”. She further affirmed that , “the investigation undertaken by the House of Representatives into the utilization of the petroleum subsidies is commendable. It is in line with the Federal government’s anti-graft war in the petroleum industry. “The Executive and the legislative arms of government are on the same page on the issue and would collaborate towards ensuring that any rot in the sector is fully addressed. “The issues that led to the investigation predated President Goodluck Jonathan’s Administration. The President is poised to sanitize the oil sector and give it new breadth of life through enhanced probity, transparent governance and zero corruption. “So, it is a wrong claim in some quarters of uneasiness in the administration over the recommendations of the House ad-hoc committee on the utilization of petroleum subsidies. “In fact, such sharp practices in the oil sector were part of the reasons President Goodluck Jonathan moved against fuel subsidy in the first instance and directed the then Minister of Finance, Olusegun Aganga to engage an internationally recognized Audit Company to investigate the rot in the sector and KPMG was retained for the purpose. This was overtaken by the more comprehensive industry wide investigation now headed by the erstwhile Chairman of EFCC and Presidential candidate of the ACN, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. Is this not a clear manifestation of President Jonathan’s determination and genuineness to fight corruption and reduce it to zero level? “Mr President’s sincere desire of enthroning probity was clearly manifested by his choice of men of integrity to be involved and he did not mind crossing the partisan barrier to get his opponent in the Presidential election to lead the investigation. So, it is not surprising that the President should welcome what the House members have done and he is on the same page on the issues.”

Recuperating Enebeli Elebuwa Becomes Fraud Victim

Some fraudsters have taken advantage of the health condition of actor, Enebeli Elebuwa to dupe Nigerians. Yesterday evening, there were some online reports that the recuperating actor was in need of five million naira for his medical care at an Indian hospital in Abuja. His health has been a major concern lately to many of his fans. Just hours after the online reports were being reacted to, sources close to the actor denied that Enebeli needed such an amount for his medical care as earlier reported. Daily Post confirmed that the earlier reports were the handiwork of some fraudsters who wanted to dupe sympathetic fans of their money. Calls have been made to Nigerians to disregard anybody asking for money for the actor’s hospital bill. “He is presently getting better now,” the source confirmed.

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar has said that the police is presently working on an initiative to ensure that the regular usage of assault rifles is stopped with the introduction of an alternative rubber bullet to combat crime in the country. Abubakar, was in Calaber for a stakeholder’s meeting with representatives of different groups inthe society including religious groups on Thursday affirmed that the police and other security agencies will not give up in its effort towards wiping out terrorists and criminals from the country. In the meeting attended by representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Muslim communities, the business community and youth groups from Cross River, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Ebonyi states, the IG said for police to enjoy the friendship of the people, there must be a total reforms in line with the 21st century order. Abubakar said the introduction of the Rubber assault rifles would be in line with what is obtainable everywhere in the world, stating that the ban on roadblock will remain till the end of his tenure. “Very soon, the use of assault rifles will be off the roads. We would now be using rubber bullets if we are to fight crime and this is meant to disable criminals. The Police and the environment where they work should be people-friendly and Nigerians should feel comfortable when they approach a policeman or walk into the station. “Road blocks are gone for good and what we will have now are patrol teams. The mounting of road blocks did a lot of damage to the image of the country and we must correct that. Road blocks had always been when armed robbers and kidnappers were operating freely and will be bribing them. This is the only country in the world where police mount check points using heavy drums and woods among others to block the road,” he said. “The intention of the present administration in the Police is to build a Force that will protect Nigeria, provide safety her citizens and guaranty the unity of the country. I want to have the police that will not harass the citizens, a force that Nigeria will be proud of in the 21st century,” he IG had asserted.

The explosion in the capital occurred at around 11:30 local time.

Van Vicker Docked By SSS In Lagos Over Arms Possession

It was a very bad day for top Ghanaian actor, Van Vicker over the weekend as he was arrested over possession of arms in Lagos. Reports say that the actor was in Lagos for the Africa Movies Academy Awards (AMAA) which he missed due to his arrest. He was moved to the security agency’s office in Ikoyi when he could not convince that he was in possession of arms meant for a movie props. While on the plane, he was asked to explain what was in his luggage after the arms were detected. Efforts to get to a colleague of hers, Uche Jombo was abortive as she was already at AMAA while her phone reportedly went off. This made the actor to spend the night in SSS’s custody. Uche was said to then help in Van Vicker’s release on Monday when she eventually got his message on her BlackBerry Messenger. We learnt that Van is now in Ghana.

“Music is what we were made to create and not controversies,” – Don Jazzy replies D’banj

A few days after D’banj granted an interview the Ayeni Adekunle of TheNETNg, super producer Don Jazzy, has hit back, saying he does not intend to go into a war of words with his former protege. In that interview, D’banj claimed that Don Jazzy was not comfortable with the GOOD Music deal and wanted to continue working in Nigeria. This difference in opinions led to their eventual break-up. But in an exclusive interview with Ascology News, the hit maker said: “I want to be clear on something that I’m not interested in going into the debates of whatever Dbanj has said, be it through an interview, the press, social media or whatever. “People should try and understand that these are very difficult moments for me and I need my space, time and moment to carry on with my life and the production of good music which is what fans have known me for a very long time. “When this whole thing started, I felt people needed to know what’s happening and in all civility, maturity and wisdom, I made those less than 140 words tweet in 3 separate lines, now see where it has led me to. Mohits is a family and Dbanj is like its son and families do quarell. Expecting me to come out and start countering accusations by one of my best friends ever while accusing him also in the process doesn’t justify my guilt or my innocence or that of his, He (Dbanj) however has a right to his opinion to grant interviews to whoever he wishes to grant interview to, I won’t stop him and won’t stop anyone who wants to believe whatever he says either. “Really, if I start responding to every single accusation, then the ‘lazy’ person I’ve been called would come out, and the ‘fake’ person I am according to critics would obviously come out since I’m not a talkative and you the media know that, I want the handwork of my music productions and the proceeds of good music at Mo’hits to speak for itself, so asking me to comment on issues like this, I really am not just interested, personally my advice to fans is to concentrate on good music from Mo’hits and huhh….well even from Dbanj himself, music is what we were made to create and not controversies.”

Peter is an ardent Chelsea supporter, while Jude supports the Spanish giants. And the two soccer loving siblings decided to put their money where their mouth is, as their two teams got ready to play the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final match. “I and @JUDEENGEES $10k bet on who qualifies…. #teamchelsea #teambarca,” Peter tweeted from his handle @PeterPSquare before the game with a picture of them squaring up to each other in their team’s jerseys.
