Air Nigeria CEO, Kinfe Kahssaye resigns

The crisis rocking Air Nigeria further deepened yesterday as its Chief Executive Officer, Kinfe Kahssaye, announced his resignation from the troubled airline. This is coming barely a month after the management the company announced the suspension of all its local, regional and international operations. The airline owned by controversial businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim, closed down business on Monday September 10, 2012 under contentious circumstance. He was accused of firing majority of workers at the airline without due process. The former CEO, it was gathered threw in the towel when it was clear the company will not resume operations anytime soon. Jimoh Ibrahim who earlier this year took over The Newswatch Magazine sacked Messrs Ray Ekpu, Dan Agbese,
Yakubu Mohammed and Soji Akinrinade from the Board of Newswatch Communications Limited, a move condemned by industry watchers However, workers of NICON Luxury Hotels, another company owned by Ibrahim, have said they will hold a protest in Abuja tomorrow. A source said the action is to express their sadness over non-payments of wages and poor conditions of service. Air Nigeria (formerly Virgin Nigeria), was established in 2004 when the Federal Government and Virgin Atlantic Airways signed a Memorandum of Mutual Understanding that gave birth to the airline. Air Nigeria, then trading as Virgin Nigeria Airways, started operating on June 28, 2005 with flights to London.
