Rukus finally releases a hint of what’s to come by releasing the intro for his highly anticipated The Hunger II mixtape which he claims will be one of the most lyrically dense and meaningful releases from a Nigerian artist. Afrotunes produces the track which serves as a backdrop while Rukus relays the struggles of being a rising artist with a string of metaphors and entendres.
“I really just want my fans to find something different every time they listen; whether its a different punchline, an entendre, or an understanding of my life and theirs. But I don’t want people to think I’m just a punchline artist…I’d like to think I bring more meaning and message to the table” says Rukus.
Many Nigerians are just finding out about Rukus, as DJs spin his remix to “Oliver Twist” in clubs worldwide. Meanwhile in Nigeria his distinctive final verse following Wizkid on Basketmouth’s “Where I’m From”, has had hip-hop fans salivating for more. These fans finally got a taste, live, of Rukus’ freestyling skills as he destroyed the booth on Dj Jimmy Jatt’s famed show “Jimmy Jatt’s JumpOff” straight off the top Download here
