Monday was remarkable in the history of the Nigerian Electoral body as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega swore in five newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners.
At the inauguration ceremony, he advised the new Commissioners to imbibe the culture of fairness and greater discipline while carrying out their national responsibilities.
While urging them to work towards achieving credibility in INEC, he warned the new RECs against partisanship.
In his statement, the INEC chairman advised them to adhere to discipline and integrity as they carry on with their duties.
In an acceptance speech by Mr. Austine Okojie, one of the Newly appointed commissioners from Edo State, he promised that through determination, they will be able to discharge their duties.
He said the Commissioners acknowledge the attitude of Nigerians that is contrary to the spirit of fair play during elections and would work towards changing such attitude.
Among those appointed were Prof. Jacob Jatau, Baba Yusuf, Segun Agbaje and Nasir Ayilara.
