Boko Haram Threatens To Unsettle Govt And Judiciary If They Hang Al Mustapha. This are not the best of times for the Nigerian Police force.
Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State General Sani Abacha and Lateef Shofolahan was yesterday convicted by a Lagos High Court sitting at Igbosere over the murder of of Kudirat Abiola, the wife of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Chief Moshood Abiola.
Anew twist as been added to it by Boko Haram.It has previously threatened to attack Sokoto State, if members of the radical Islamic sect detained by security agencies in the state are not released immediately.
People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet's Teachings and Jihad (Arabic: جماعة اهل السنة للدعوة والجهاد, Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati Wal-Jihad), better known by its Hausa name Boko Haram, is a Salafist jihadist terrorist organisation based in the northeast of Nigeria, in the areas predominated by the Kanuri people. Founded by Mohammed Yusuf in 2001 or 2002, the organisation is a Muslim sect that seeks to "abolish the secular system and establish an Islamic state" and "establish Sharia system of government in the country."
The movement, whose name in the Hausa language Boko Haram translates as "Western education is sacrilege" or "Western education is a sin", is divided into three factions, and in 2011, was responsible for more than 450 killings in Nigeria.
Though the group first became known internationally following sectarian violence in Nigeria in 2009, it does not have a clear structure or evident chain of command. Moreover, it is still a matter of debate whether Boko Haram has any links to terror outfits outside Nigeria with some claiming one of its factions maintains links with terror groups in Somalia, North Africa and with Al-Qaeda.
