Delta group praises Uduaghan, debunks allegations by Keyamo, others

A group of Delta leaders, The
People’s Movement, have refuted
allegations of corruption, oppression
and marginalization against Governor
Emmanuel Uduaghan.
The body on Tuesday said remarks by
rights activist and lawyer, Mr. Festus
Keyamo, the Delta State Chairman of
the Democratic People’s Party ,DPP,
Mr. Chukwugozie Ezeagwu, Chief
David Omoru and others on
Uduaghan’s performance were false.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the
group’s Director of Communications,
Mrs. Ibifuro Tatua, said the current
administration has provided the basic
infrastructure to stimulate growth
and development in the state, adding
that apart from running a
government based on honesty and
fairness, it is also propagating
peaceful co-existence through inter-
ethnic capacity building among
residents.
The statement reads in part: “In
Delta State, we have seen hopes
maturing to reality. War on crime has
been declared and that fight has
been won. The rule of law is
respected in Delta State. Public
servants are properly paid.”
“The government has put smiles on
the faces of the people by executing
policies and programmes that have
direct impact in the lives of the
people. The government has invested
in education, health; sports, rural
development, security and housing
and the benefits are there for all to
see.” it said.
They leaders commended Uduaghan
him for “nurturing popular
democracy, protecting life and
personal liberty, pursuing justice,
creating opportunities for the youth
and providing meaningful
developmental projects across the
state as well as ensuring equity and
fairness in appointment to political
offices.”
“For members of the Egbema
Progressive Network ,EPN, Egbema
for Positive Change ,EPC, the Isoko
Action Forum and some individuals to
say their people have been
marginalized and oppressed by a
man who runs a government that is
all inclusive and all-embracing, one
that excludes no one is to say the
least unbelievable and mischievous ”
the leaders said.
“Uduaghan appointed some Isoko and
Ijaw sons and daughters into key
positions of his administration. Many
schools are being built or
rehabilitated, solar electricity
provided, streets dualized and new
roads constructed in Isoko and Ijaw
areas. The Delta State University,
Oleh Campus and the Delta State
Polytechnic, Ozoro Campus are well
funded by the government. Uduaghan
wants to make Delta State stable and
prosperous. He is moving with great
zeal and vigour to make the
difference.”
The leaders advised Ijaw indigenes in
Warri North, the Urhobo leadership
of the People’s Democratic
Party ,PDP, in Warri South Local
Government Area and members of
the Isoko Action Forum to define the
objectives and strategies of their
political struggles more clearly than
degenerating to abuses, lies and wild
allegations.
Speaking further, the group noted
that “We have a Governor with a
listening ear. We have a Governor
that is committed to the development
of the state. We have a Governor
that is providing responsible,
accountable and transparent
leadership to the people. The avenue
of peaceful dialogue is still available
to the youth. These times require you
to use your influence to prevail on
the youths to desist from this
hopeless cause.”
They urged Deltans, irrespective of
tribe, religion or political difference
to give full support to Uduaghan’s
administration to enable him
complete his tenure smoothly and
successfully.

I did not kill anybody – Fayose

A former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr.
Ayo Fayose, yesterday dismissed the
rumour making the rounds that he
was a murderer, saying that his
political opponents were the people
behind the unfortunate rumour.
Speaking against the backdrop of the
renewed political crisis in the state,
and the rumour that he was behind
it, the former Governor said that the
rumour was part of a smear
campaign ahead of the 2014
governorship election in the state.
He said, “ My popularity in Ekiti
ahead of the 2014 governorship
election is a dilemma to my
opponents and that is why they are
looking for any opportunity to
blackmail me.
“I am not a murderer as they
claimed. Nobody or court has
arraigned me for murder in the last
seven years. Are we saying that the
system is not working.’’
Fayose said his political opponents
had nothing to use in campaigning
against him.
“It is all political gimmicks and
intrigues. They are running a failed
propaganda,’’ he said.
“Look at it again; there had been
renewed violence, attacks and killings
in Ekiti in the last couple of months
now just because people are
defecting from Action Congress of
Nigeria,CAN, to PDP to give me
support, ’’ he said.
He appealed to his supporters to
remain resolute and shun all acts
capable of heating up the polity.

Nigeria will experience positive results from Jonathan in 2013 – Okonjo-Iweala

The Minister of Finance, Ngozi
Okonjo-Iweala, yesterday assured
that the country would begin to feel
the fresh air of President Goodluck
Jonathan’s administration as from
this year, 2013.
She gave this assurance in an
interview monitored by DailyPost on
Cable News Network, CNN with
Christiane Amanpour .
According to her, “2013 is going to be
a game changer and a turning point
because this is the year we are going
to produce results, and we are
already producing results within the
administration.
“First, on the economic side, I just
want to say that macro-economic
stability has been restored. Now,
nobody should minimise that.
Remember the two last decades in
Africa -the 1980s and 1990s – when
there were so many instabilities that
people could not focus on areas that
could create jobs.”
Okonjo-Iweala said the country was
projecting 6.5 per cent GDP growth
this year, compared to an average
five per cent for other African
countries.
“I just want to say that when you
mentioned GDP growth, in my
country, people will immediately say
you can’t eat growth because we
have challenges of unemployment,
we need to create more jobs, we
have challenges of inclusion and
there are problems of inequality; all
those are challenges we face,” she
said.
Speaking on the irregular power
supply in the country, she admitted
that it was absolutely true that the
country is facing several challenges,
but will soon come out of it,
considering that no magic could have
been done in just few years of
Nigeria’s democracy as the country
had suffered under several military
eras in the past with no
infrastructure on ground before
democracy.

Presidential Directive: FG alleges forgery, drags Leadership Newspapers to court

The Federal Government has dragged
the Leadership Newspapers, its News
Editor, Mr. Tony Amokeodo, and a
political reporter, Chibuzor Ukaibe, to
court over alleged forgery.
They were brought before Justice
Adeniyi Ademola of a Federal High
Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday
over a 10-count charge bordering on
forgery of a document titled
“Bromide of The Presidential
Directive” which they published in
their newspaper on April 3.
On Monday, Amokeodo and Ukaibe,
first detained for about two days on
April 8, were re-arrested when they
reported at the police station in
compliance with Police bail condition.
According to the charge brought
against them on Tuesday, the
accused were alleged to have
conspired with another reporter,
Taiwo Omilani, said to be at large, to
forge the document and thereby
committed an offence and punishable
under section 467 of the Criminal
Code Act Cap C 38, Laws of the
Federation of Nigeria 2004.
However, before their plea could be
taken, Amokeodo, who is listed as
the first accused in the charge, told
the trial judge, Justice Ademola, that
he and his colleague were detained
on Monday and were driven to court
Tuesday morning from detention
without any information on the
charge brought against them.
The prosecutor, Mr. Joe Nwadike, had
informed the court that the police re-
arrested the journalists whom he
alleged had jumped bail having failed
to keep to the terms of the
administrative bail they were granted.
He said that it took the effort of a
combined team of investigators and
security operatives to effect their
arrest Monday night.
Nwadike also told the court that the
accused persons’ lawyer had been
served with copies of the charge and
the notice of their arraignment.
The journalists’ plea was however not
taken upon the discovery by the
court that the company, Leadership
Group Limited, the third accused in
the charge, had not been served.
Consequently, the court directed that
the company be served to compel
the appearance of a director of the
company to represent it.
Nwadike requested for an
adjournment to enable the police
effect service on the company and
thereafter asked the court to order
the detention of the journalists
pending their arraignment and plea
taking.
However, Mr. Samuel Ogala from Mr.
Femi Falana’s chambers who
represented the journalists opposed
this submission and pleaded with the
court to grant the accused persons
conditional release pending their
formal arraignment and plea taking.
Justice Ademola however refused
Nwadike’s request and released the
journalists to Mr. Umar Jibril, a
lawyer and company secretary to
Leadership Newspapers and
adjourned till April 24 for their
arraignment.
Meanwhile, Media Rights Agenda
(MRA) has condemned the re-arrest
on April 15 of Amokeodo and Ukaibe
of Leadership newspaper, describing
the action as systematic and
unwarranted harassment.
It called for the immediate and
unconditional release of the
journalists, saying it had issued a
global alert on the matter through
the mechanism of the International
Freedom of Expression Exchange
(IFEX) to call international attention
to the situation of the journalists
whom it said were simply being
harassed for exposing the
government’s political machinations.
MRA’s Deputy Executive Director, Ms
Jennifer Onyejekwe, described the
action of the Police as “sheer abuse
of power”
“The police know that they have no
power to hold the journalists for
more than 24 hours without a court
order. They have therefore resorted
to undermining the Constitution by
detaining them, releasing them and
again detaining them.
“This is sheer abuse of power and we
are calling on the global freedom of
expression community to condemn
this high-handedness on the part of
the Nigerian Government and its law
enforcement agencies,” she said.
Onyejekwe added that “It was clear
from the circumstance that the Police
had no evidence of wrongdoing
against the journalists and had
resorted to a strategy of harassment
and intimidation to frustrate the
journalists and prevent them from
carrying out their professional
duties.”
The 10-count charge against
LEADERSHIP reads:

VIDEO: Wakazi – Abacus

This is a video from the Upcoming EP called
ABACUS which will be released at the end of
the month. It was shot in various locatons
in Chicago. Wakazi aka The Bilingual Beast
is from Tanzania, and raps in English and in
his native Swahili. He started to get a buzz
around africa when he competed in the Don
Jazzy Enigma Beat competition, and later
featured on stage by Ice Prince (Chocolate
City) on the Chicago leg of the United
Sounds of Africa Tour last fall.
Wakazi started rapping at young age in
Tanzania. In high school, he became
popular with his performances during talent
shows. He never took it seriously because
of pressure from family to pursue other
things. It was until he moved to Chicago in
pursuit of the American Dream, where his
love for Hip Hop was rejuvenated.
In a short period, the self proclaimed,
“Bilingual Beast” has gone from Freestyling,
recording demos, performing in festivals,
opening up for big acts like Ice Prince and
2face Idibia, and finally becoming a
seasoned performer. He has evolved from a
young child in the streets of Dar es Salaam,
to a lyrical giant who sees nothing else than
Work Ethic and Dedication as being the keys
to success. After years of commitment and
dedication to his craft, Wakazi is poised to
become Tanzania’s leading Ambassador in
Africa and in the Music World.
His signature Blend of English and Swahili
rhymes caused him to be dubbed the
“Bilingual Beast”, but his ability to tell a
story and clever use of wordplay and
metaphors, seem to be his real Strength.
His ability to create context for the
listeners is unparalleled, and he credits that
to his personal life experiences as well as
his imaginative part of the brain, which is
sometimes more vivid than life itself.
Wakazi believes he has something to prove
to first Tanzania, and then the rest of
Africa, that he deserves a spot among the
Best. With the release of Three Mixtapes
(MYU: The Trilogy) in the past year, “Abacus
EP” and his debut Album “Kisimani LP”
slated to drop soon, Wakazi has set the
platform with which his dreams could be
fulfilled. The sky is the limit for this TZee
Emcee.

Why I sleep in a coffin – Charlyboy

Sleeping in a Coffin???
Point of correction, I do not sleep in a
casket, I sleep on my bed, it’s big and
comfy, I only lay in my “casket” when I do
my meditation because it helps me to be
focused, it tells me more about the
imminence of death. My casket is a
reminder. It wakes me up from slumber. It
tells me,” guy, you have got little or no time
left, wake up, be creative and work” Of
course, when I read some of the comments
of my people, I know a good number of us
are ill-informed about quite a number of
things. I think it is more of what the casket
represents that shocks my people and they
start reading meanings into it, depending
on their level of understanding. But one
question is, what if the same wood that was
used to build the casket was used to make
a sofa chair? May be, all the hullabaloo
about me sitting on a chair wouldn’t have
been there in the first place? So when
people vocalize their disapproval of my
message via the image of a casket, I
understand that they do that from a
position of Fear, fear of what the casket
represents- Death. So whatever people fear
they antagonize. But, the fact that I have
reminded myself and even you about death
does not really change a thing. It won’t
draw your death near, and it won’t even
shift it away. All it does is simply a
reminder, to thread carefully.
MY Coffin sensitizes
Only if a kidnapper can buy a casket for
himself today, and begin to lay inside,
constantly reminding himself that death
looms even as he goes about kidnapping
and extorting money from families. It’s
possible to realize at a point that all his
activities will one day end up in a casket,
and there, his flesh will rotten. The same is
applicable to all evil doers. They need to
realize, like in the famous book, “Waiting
for Godot” that the world is bizarre and
empty, as vanity plus vanity will always end
up in vanity. Crime no dey pay jor.
My Coffin preaches:
Take a critical look at my
image inside the coffin, it
speaks volume. I always lay in my casket
with my cap, glasses, shoes on. I’m always
well dressed. Yes, it is always done
intentionally to tell us that your glory
disappears with all the wealth you must
have acquired the very day you go to that
coffin. Your glory-your cap goes with you,
your vision-your glasses goes with you;
your struggle-your shoes goes with you.
The only thing left of you is your history
and your legacy. The crux of the message is
to leave a legacy, so we can live forever,
not in the physical, but in people’s
memories. As for me, I will live forever. You
dey vex???
We are blind because of our fears
Who knows what any of us sees from the
privacy of our own blindness? Make no
mistakes, each of us is blind in a particular
way, just as each of us is sighted uniquely.
Consider how each of us is blinded by what
we fear. If we fear heights, we are blind to
the humility vast perspectives bring. If we
fear Passion, we are blind to the comfort of
Oneness. If we fear change, we are blind to
the abundance of life. If we fear death, we
are blind to the mystery of the unknown.
And since to fear is something thoroughly
human, to be blind is unavoidable. It is
what each of us must struggle to overcome.
To a large degree, I have overcome my fear
of death, all I ask God, is that may my
death not be painful. I’m sure some of you
know how my cousin who was killed by
kidnappers died an agonizing death. You
see, in the course of our lives, we all
stumble and struggle, repeatedly, in and
out of relationship, in and out of the grace
of the hidden wholeness of life, most of us
struggle and stumble with the uncertainty
of tomorrow as Nigerians. I have discovered
that in the course of our lives, and as blind
children, we may never know what we are
called to be until we have learned what we
are called to become by simply overcoming
our fears. In life, death is the most
important reminder of all activities. Abi you
dey vex???

Amnesty for Boko Haram is legalization of terrorism – Anglican Youths

Anglican Youth Fellowship, Nigeria, had on Friday,
opined that the Federal government’s decision to
grant amnesty to the Islamic fundamentalists was
nothing but to legalize terrorism in Nigeria.
The President of AYF, Wuse Archdeaconry Council,
Barrister Isaac Harrison stated this during a workshop
organised for youth, with the theme; “Empowered To
Impact The World”, in Abuja.
According to him, “We cannot grant amnesty to people
we do not know, we cannot also grant amnesty to
people who had already made up their minds that
whether there is dialogue or not, they will go on with
whatever they are doing, If Boko Haram actually need
peace, they will not be killing those that are moving
towards that peace.
“So, the Anglican Youth Fellowship members are not
in support of the amnesty to Boko Haram.
“You should remember that some months ago, US
listed Nigeria as a terrorist country, it was by the
grace of God that we were able to release ourselves
from that situation, so, if we grant amnesty to Boko
Haram, it will means that Nigeria is a terrorist
country, because we will be seen to be legalizing
terrorism.”

“Blogs and sites created news out of thin air” – Banky W speaks on Wizkid’s EME deal

EME boss, Banky W, has characteristically remained
silent as the ‘Has Wizkid left EME or not’ saga
rumbled on. However, in an interview with City
People, the recording artiste and brand ambassador,
decided to make some salient points.
Excerpts:
When you released that album there was
something a lot of people noticed?
Let me tell you that Wizkid wasn’t on the album.
First of all, I want to say that what we like to call
‘Bad Belle People’ because they think there may be
bad news and when you don’t give them that news
they start to create it because I guess bad news
sells more than good news. So I want to say
categorically that there was no twitter fight.
People go on-line and use Photoshop to create my
profile and say that I said this and then they go
and create Wizkid’s profile and say he said this.
The bottom line is first of all, that never
happened and what happened is that we’ve been
working on Wizzy’s project to make it work
internationally and when you are getting to that
level things change. He has his own idea of what
he wants to do and we are in 100 per cent in
support of that and these are things that we
dreamed of back in 2009 when I signed him. I felt
like this guy can blow all over the world, this guy
can you know really be a star and now that it has
happened it is a good thing there is a Disturbing
London angle he wants to take and so on and so
forth and there is a contract in place and he is
still signed to EME.
So he is still signed to EME?
Absolutely he is still signed to EME.
Because the general believe is that he started his
own thing, ‘Star Boy entertainment.’
Well, you know that is something else he wants to
do. He wants to start his record label and I mean I
started my own label and look where I am today.
You have a lot of people fabricating stuff and
trying to make it feel like there is a battle and
you know we don’t believe in that. We are all
mature, we are all grown up people and we are all
happy for one another.
You know he is starting his label and we are in
support of that, he is going internationally and
working with Disturbing London, and we are in
support of that. There is still the Konvict Music
angle which we also orchestrated so I guess we
can call it restructuring but we are all on the table
negotiating and figuring out the best way to make
the project move forward. There is no beef, Wiz is
absolutely a part of the family legally, he is still
signed even aside from contract somethings are
bigger than contract and money. EME and Wiz will
continue.
It is just that we are figuring out the terms and
the reason he is not on the album and in fact he
had worked on some one or two things that were
supposed to be on the album but in the interest of
kind of respecting the conversation that we were
having, you know what let’s figure out where we
are going and how we are going to do his next
level stuff. So we decided as a group to suspend
the music that we worked on together just for
now till we figure out all of that. We are almost at
the conclusion will that. He is absolutely and will
always be a part of the family. I mean we created
history, this is somebody whose debut album took
the whole country, the continent by storm and you
know we all worked on that, so it is a good thing
not a bad thing, growth is good so that is really
the long and short of it.
How does it work for him to have star boy
entertainment and still be a part of EME?
I would give you a fantastic example, Kanye West
has “Good Music” and he is still with Rock Nation,
Rockafella that is all I am going to say about it.
There is no beef, no war. One day I woke up and I
saw on twitter that somebody has used Photoshop
to make my profile and said some random things
and used some terrible English that I have never
used in my life it just unfortunate that as far as
we have come as an industry there are still some
people in the media and I want to give credit to
like City People.
You guys never took that route and I respect you
people for that because some other blogs and
sites started creating things out of thin air to
cause a problem. We are working and we are all
trying to achieve our dreams and hopefully taking
this movement to another level. I have never said
anything negative about Wiz, and Wiz has never
said anything negative about me publicly and let’s
just accept and leave it like that. Wiz will continue
to be successful, EME will continue to be
successful. Let’s just keep the peace one big happy
family.
I am going little into what was reported that at
your album launch that Wizzy was ignored. He was
not acknowledged at the album launch.
I have to explain it. The album launch was
structured in a very specific way. We used the
album launch, I might add, to launch the Samsung
Galaxy Brand phone by the way if you haven’t got
one you might go out to get one which has my
signature on it but at the album launch nobody
was acknowledged because it was not one of those
events where you sit down and say “Oh Don Jazzy
is in the building and now we have the CEO of
Samsung in the building and now you have eLDee
the Don in the building who were there.
We wanted to have something that is not a typical
event. Secondly from the stage, I don’t
acknowledge anybody and that is not a
disrespectful thing it is just the structure of the
event. Wiz came in like Don Jazzy, Samsung
Executives, eLDee the Don, IK, Waje, like
everybody else came in and we had a fantastic
event and nobody was complaining from my end
but again I go back to the fact that people want to
create bad news and it is exciting. Exciting for
some people when Biggy and 2Pac are throwing
words at each other and when Nas and Jay-Z are
fighting and then people just want to create that
and it is sad, really sad.
Why didn’t they write Don Jazzy came to the event
and I don’t hail him? Why didn’t they write I didn’t
hail any of the other EME artiste that came to the
event? Why didn’t they write I didn’t hail Segun
Demuren, that is my business partner. They didn’t
write it because it wasn’t exciting.
A lot of people believe that what led to the rift
between you and Wiz is because of the sharing
formula. I just want you to clear the air on that
issue.
Okay, again, I want to say about “sharing formula”
again, I got back to the something I have been
saying which is when you don’t give them bad
news that create it. EME has the fairest recording
deal in the country by far. I can go pound for
pound and show you the terms that EME artistes
including myself even though I own the company,
have versus any other recording contract name
the recording company. You don’t do that but I
can beat my chest to say EME has the best
recording contract in the industry, it is not just
true for people to say or hint that any of my
artistes are received 25 per cent. It is impossible
and even you as an artiste can never sign that
kind of deal so it is 100 per cent false. Part of the
reason the EME deals are structured the way they
are is because I am an artiste myself and when I
was coming up, I was offered a lot of deals even in
Nigeria that were not just but now that I’m to
start up myself, I wont sign a deal with an artiste
I wont be able to sign myself which I have also
signed the same deal. So to cut the long story
short, the report out there is 100 per cent untrue.
In fact, if you actually look at the clause that EME
takes on behalf of the artistes from the day we
signed until when they released their album or
whenever money starts being generated, the deal
is actually more in favour of the artiste than of
the company but we do that because I myself just
wouldn’t feel right about a record deal that won’t
benefit the artiste. It is 100 per cent false again. It
is just sad that some people try to create news.
They don’t have the fact so they create them.
However, you have to go back to the things I
actually said not the things people said I said or
what people said Wizzy said you know, it is just
what it is.
People can say what they want, but what I tell my
artistes is that Jesus Christ was perfect and he was
still crucified. How much more us with all the
crazy, bad messed-up things we have done in our
lives and you think you are going to walk through
this paths and be praised? You have to deal with
the territory. You want to go on stage and people
are going to cheer there are come that want to
tear you down regardless.
And all you can do really is try to be a good
person and try to do right by everybody God
brings your way and if you do that let God take
care of the rest. We are fine, we are cool, very
happy with Wiz and for Wiz. That is all I have to
say.

Yvonne Ekwere Reveals More Alter Egos; Meet Mr Ekwere

Ok Yvonne Ekwere looking so much like a man
is actually quite concerning, but let’s all just
assume it’s all make up and art. Still though,
before we knew it was the alter ego, this pic
looked like any other random bros at the beer
parlor.
Whatever the case is, meet the alter egos, Mr
Ekwere & Imoh. Obi Somto did very well with
the pics and the make art is solid.
