Drake addresses Pusha T Disses “I don’t know, maybe that guy is bored.”

Plenty of artists ranging from Ludacris, Pusha T, Future to Common have taken shots at Drake in the past 12 months or so for various reasons. In the latest issue of Vibe magazine where Nicki Minaj graces the cover, Drake has addressed some of that hate. The most interesting response is perhaps to Pusha when Drake says “I Don’t Know, Maybe That Guy Is Bored”.

“I’ve got no issues with him,” he says of Future, who was upset that Drake didn’t appear in his video, “Tony Montana.” “I’m happy I got on the song.” Pusha T, who once cryptically rhymed that, “the swag doesn’t match the sweaters,” gets off easy, too. “I’ve been really open about my love for the Clipse,” he says. “I don’t know, maybe that guy is bored.” Ludacris, who was accused of stealing Big Sean and Drake’s hashtag flow, also receives a halfhearted smack down, “That’s a case of someone trying to use my marketing money to get things going again for themselves. That didn’t affect my day, my month, my year. I didn’t take any of that seriously.”

Ojukwu arrives to heroic welcome in Abuja

Former leader of the defunct Republic of Biafra, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, on Monday received a heroic welcome in death, at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The remains of the late presidential candidate and National Leader of the All Peoples Grand Alliance, which arrived the Abuja airport in the early hours of Monday aboard British Airways, was received and honoured in a ceremony chaired by Senate President, David Mark.

Vice President Namadi Sambo, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan at the airport ceremony, said the late Ikemba Nnewi deserved all the honours he had been getting from all walks of life.

Rev. Father Willy Ojukwu and Archbishop John Onayekan, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, presided over a short church ceremony.

According to the Vice President, Ojukwu was a courageous man who fought with all his heart when his people faced pogrom.

He said Ojukwu provided fearless and principled leadership to the Igbos during the period of the civil war.

Describing Ojukwu as man of great intellectual and interpersonal skill, Sambo said the late Ikemba Nnewi was an advocate of a united Nigeria.

The remains of Ojukwu, which was conveyed in a golden casket draped in the national colours by an ambulance to the presidential wing of the airport were received by military pallbearers from Army Headquarters.

Sambo said, “No word can adequately describe the nature, character, legacy and lessons left behind by this soldier and gentleman.

“In all his life he displayed strong leadership traits. He was an epitome of service and sacrifice, a worthy example of public accountability and good governance and an advocate of good governance.

He added, “He stood up and fought for what he believed in. He stood up for justice and refused to compromise. He challenged inhumanity to man and when his kith and kin were faced with pogrom, he stood his ground and fought.

“He displayed physical and moral courage throughout his life with excellent intellectual and inter personal communications skills. He was an advocate of a united Nigeria.”

The pallbearers numbering eight were of the ranks of brigadier, colonel and lieutenant colonel. A Burial Party mounted a guard of honour while a Guards Brigade Band played as the body was brought in for military honours.

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, Senators Uche Chukwumerije and Ben Obi accompanied the military procession as the pallbearers received the corpse and carried it to the centre of the ceremony.

Mark said it was proper that he should chair the ceremony since he and the late leader received their military pensions on the same day.

He said, “Ojukwu has continued to draw accolades from different parts of the country. He was a fine officer and gentleman. He was a compassionate leader. He fought for justice all his life. He was born with silver spoon in his mouth but ignored that spoon.

“The history of this nation cannot be complete without highlighting the role that Ojukwu played in the country. The best tribute we can pay to him is to be committed to justice and education. He has shown us that one can be committed to his ethnic group and Nigeria at the same time.”

First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, described Ojukwu as a man of great intellect, adding that Igbos were not alone in mourning him.

Keynote Speaker at the event, former External Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi, said the death of Ojukwu marked the end of an era. He lamented that the ills the late Biafran warlord fought against were still present in the country.

Former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, eulogised Ojukwu as a man of vision, adding that till today, Nigeria had not found a better solution to the problems that Ojukwu fought against.

Widow of the late leader, Bianca, dressed in black and dark goggles and looking sullen, was among family members that occupied the front row at the ceremony.

At the end of the airport ceremony, the body was conveyed to a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, Charley 130 Hercules (NAF 917) which had been waiting for the transmission of the body to Owerri, the Imo State capital.

SURE Programme still Operational – Reuben Abati

Presidential spokesman Reuben Abati has released a strongly worded statement in order to clear the air on the purported truncation of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment (SURE) programme.

Recent reports had alleged that the President had disclosed its cancellation to ruling party members at their 58th National Executive Committee meeting. The reason being that the subsidy was not fully removed as intended.

In a press release issued by Mr. Abati, the Presidency has refuted the reports and attempted to shed light on the actual policy stance.

Abati said, “As has become the pattern by some political pundits, whose definition of opposition is to undermine any good policy initiative of the Federal Government, there has been a deliberate misrepresentation of the comments by President Goodluck Jonathan at the 58th National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party on February 20, 2012 on the issue of reviewing the SURE programme.

“Hence, it has been alleged that the Federal Government has abandoned or is attempting to truncate the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment programme.”

“At no time did President Goodluck Jonathan say that the Federal Government had abandoned the SURE programme. What he said in his opening remarks at the meeting last week was that the full implementation of government’s palliatives to cushion the negative effects of the fuel subsidy removal, as contained in the original SURE programme was no longer feasible and would be reviewed in view of the partial rather than full removal of the subsidy on petrol.

“The SURE programme was predicated on a policy of full deregulation as stated in the SURE document released to the general public. However, due to widely publicised events after the commencement of full deregulation, the government, after a series of negotiations with organised labour, reduced the pump price of petrol.

“It, therefore, follows that the funds that were expected to accrue from full deregulation will no longer accrue since the policy of full deregulation was stepped down for the time being.

“This new reality informed the President’s directive that the original SURE programme documents already circulated to the public be withdrawn in order not to give the public false expectations.

“For those who are still in doubt, let it be stressed that the Dr. Christopher Kolade committee charged with implementing the SURE programme is still at work and has not been disbanded, while a new SURE document containing the reviewed palliatives will soon be released to the public.”

FG Pledges $15 Million to IFAD, Plans to Increase Agric Output to $ 300 Billion

The Federal Government plans to boost the impact of agriculture on the Nigerian economy three-fold from the present $ 99 billion to $ 300 billion by the year 2030.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Akinwumi Adesina, made this known at the 35th session of the governing council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) held in Rome.

The Minister, who also pledged $15 million as contribution from Nigeria to IFAD in order to replenish the body’s financial resources, stated “Our vision is to move Nigeria to become an agriculturally industrialised economy, to create wealth, jobs and markets for farmers, and to revive the rural economy.”

“Nigeria’s economy is one of the fastest growing in the world, growing by 7.8 per cent annually, and it is projected that Nigeria will become the fifth largest country in the world by 2050 and the largest economy in Africa by 2015.

“Agriculture is very important for Nigeria, where it contributes 40 per cent of the GDP and over 70 per cent of all employment.”

Nigeria usually contributes $ 5 million to IFAD, and this recent $ 15 million pledge represents a three-fold increase.

Popular Yoruba movie actress/Producer , Laide bakare survived a car accident

Popular Yoruba movie actress/Producer , Laide bakare survived a car accident that could have claimed her life last weekend.
PM news reports that the accident occured in Ifo police station, ogun state while she was driving her newly acquired Range Rover with customised number LBO which stands for Laide bakare Okunfulure.
Bakare was speeding when a nissan saloor car ,driving out of the the police station rammed into her vehicle which led to collision.
Although the driver of the Nissan admitted to being at fault, both automobiles were detained at the Ifo Police Station.
A witness said “Laide really has her God to thank because she did not even sustain any injury. I have seen an accident of this nature claim lives before, but I think God is on her side.” it was the ‘star’ status of the actress that made the jittery Nissan driver admit being at fault.
“He could have claimed otherwise, but I guess it was due to the respect he has for her. Both of them were at fault really because Laide too was on a rather high speed.”the witness said.
Laide is well known in yoruba movie industry and has acted in and produced many movies.

Laide Bakare is one of the most active Yoruba actresses, considering the fact that she started way back in 1999. In this interview with Tunde Ayanda, she speaks on how she got into the industry, her take on nudity and her family. Excerpts:
Can you tell us exactly how you got into acting?
I joined the movie industry through my dad. Several artistes used to lodge in my dad’s hotel in Ibadan and there was a particular time when my father was celebrating his birthday with a house warming and we all went to his hotel which was the venue of the party. And on getting there, we saw so many film makers, some of them liked me and when they needed anything, they’d ask me which I provided for them. It was there that they asked me if I would like to join them. I must confess that I actually love acting and anything that has to do with film production. My father travels a lot and he buys a lot of equipment like cameras for shooting and recording and people that rented them used to tell me of their usefulness in movie production and that was how it started.Later I sought and gained admission into the University of Ibadan to study Theatre Arts for my first degree and then the University of Lagos for my postgraduate and the rest is history.
Can you remember your first movie?
The very first movie was Adeyemi and it was produced by Muka Ray. I played a major role and acted so well in it that people couldn’t believe it was my first time, it was in 1999.

Before coming to the industry, who were the people that attracted you into acting?
Unfortunately, home videos were not so popular when I was growing up, but I had some role models in broadcasting. There were also some in acting, people like Joke Silva, Bimpe Adekola, Jide Kosoko, Olu Jacobs and quite a number of them that have made their marks in the industry.

Let me compare the Nigerian movie industry with other professions like banking, law or the medical line, do you think you are getting what you actually deserved in the industry compared to related professions?
You don’t judge through financial benefits but fulfilment and happiness. I might not be happy being a banker, a lawyer or what have you. The movie industry is where I know I belong, the profession is what gives me joy and I’m happy doing it. I must also tell you that its not as bad as people think it is. Honestly, we are not doing badly except for some challenges in distribution, you know we distribute all over Africa, also in Europe and America. At times, you’ll discover that your movie did not get to where it is supposed to touch. Again, the internet too is not helping matters as people will put your film on the internet without consulting you or paying you any form of royalty. These are the challenges we are facing and once they can be corrected, we are fine.
You do more of Yoruba movies than Igbo, why?
Because the Yoruba producers patronise me more, they appreciate me and give me roles, they know my worth and respect me so much. When you are faced with other challenges and you know the producers are tribalistic and only want to give roles to people of their tribe, it doesn’t bother me. This is because I know I’ve been treated well by producers that know my worth and want me to be in their movies where they pay better money, I won’t be bothered.
You are one of the most prominent actresses we have around, how do you ward off male advances, especially if they come from people you believe are your fans?
Its so easy and simple. When one is dealing with admirers, it depends on the person, its the way you present yourself. Normally, they will not appreciate you more than being an actress, they will either reserve any ulterior motive that can bring them embarrassment. You know men are no fools, they read countenance and understand what is available for them and what is not, so its simply putting them in check.

Labour leaders raises alarm over govt plan to increase fuel price to N140

The Nigeria Labour Congress [NLC] has raised alarm over federal government and Oil Marketers to increase the petrol price from N97 to N140.

It will be recalled that at early January this year, the NLC embarked on a successful nationwide strike which lasted for a week following the removal of oil subsidy by federal govenrment.

The Labour leaders said the government was contriving with the oil marketers to push fuel price to N140, under the guise of scarcity.

The NLC, in a statement issued yesterday, described the move as unacceptable, adding that the current artificial fuel scarcity in parts of the country was to blackmail Nigerians into accepting higher fuel prices.

“It is unacceptable to the NLC that marketers and the government will contrive to push the price of a litre of petrol (PMS) back to N140 under the guise of fuel scarcity,” the NLC, in a statement signed by its acting general secretary, Owei Lakemfa, said.

The NLC also described as ridiculous, the claim by the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) and the Independent Petroleum Marketers of Nigeria (IPMAN) that the probe into the oil sector by the National Assembly had created “uncertainties” and loss of confidence by the financial institutions, which had translated into fuel scarcity, as ridiculous.

Lakemfa said the fuel scarcity was part of the schemes to put pressure on the National Assembly to discontinue the probe.

The union said the President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration must live up to its promise that Nigerians would reap the dividends of the fuel price hike, adding that Nigerians were not interested in excuses

Suicide bomber attacks church in Jos, 3 dead!

A suicide bomber drove an explosives packed car into a church in the volatile central city of Jos on Sunday and killed three people, church leaders told AFP.

The attack is the latest in a country grappling with what have become almost daily assaults, most of them blamed on the Islamist sect Boko Haram.

Church workers said a car forced its way through the gate during an early morning service.

“We were in the church during the time of worship and a suicide bomber forced himself into through the gate, into the church and the bomb exploded,” John Haruna, the reverend of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN), told AFP.

Another church member who is also an activist with the Christian human rights organisation Stefanos Foundation gave a similar account.

“It was suicide bomber, he drove his car into the church, approaching the pulpit and it exploded. Three members of the church died and 10 are injured,” Mark Lipdo, said.

He said pieces of human flesh littered the church premises.

Boko Haram has been blamed for a wave of increasingly bloody gun and bomb attacks in several parts of Africa’s most populous country in recent months, mostly in the Muslim-dominated north.

Incidents of attacks are also growing in the central region, the so-called middle belt which divides the predominantly Muslim north and the mainly Christian south.

Last Sunday several people were wounded in an explosion near a church outside the capital, Abujba.

Boko Haram has targeted Christians on several previous occasions, notably with a series of coordinated blasts on Christmas Day

Australian woman scams Nigerian scammers

A 23 years old Aussie woman Sarah Jane Cochrane-Ramsey was employed by some Nigerians as an "agent" in March 2010 but was unaware they were scam artists, the Brisbane District Court heard today.

Her job was to provide an Australian bank account through which they could funnel any payments they received through their dodgy account on a popular car sales website. Cochrane-Ramsey was to keep eight per cent of all money paid into her account and forward the rest to the Nigerian scammers.

However, the court heard that the Brisbane based Aussie women kept the two payments she received - totalling $33,350 and spent most of it on herself. The car buyers who were ripped off reported the matter to police, who traced the account to Cochrane-Ramsey.

Police inquiries found her employers were based in Nigeria but had been using a web server in New York to run their dodgy car sales listings. Cochrane-Ramsey pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated fraud on Thursday.

Judge Terry Martin described her as having a "dishonest bent" after hearing she had a history of stealing and property offences.

He adjourned the sentence to allow her time to provide further details of money she claimed was in a bank account that would allow her to make some repayments. Cochrane-Ramsey will be sentenced next month.

“Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon and South Africa have been picked in Africa by Chelsea FC for its academy camp,” Egbukwu said. “My French partner, Olivier, and I have been mandated by Chelsea to take charge of the camp in Nigeria. Initially, they were scared of including Nigeria because of the Boko Haram issue, but we succeeded in convincing them that there was no cause for alarm in Lagos.”

“We are expecting a 10-man Chelsea delegation from England any moment from now. They want to come and make inspection before giving us the go-ahead to throw the camp open.

He went ahead to disclose details of how the emerging footballers will be selected for the academy.

“It’s going to be a big camp and it will admit about 500 youths between 15 and 18 years old. After screening which will hold at the National Stadium, Lagos, arrangements will be made for the feeder teams of the teams such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United and PSG to come for invitational tournaments. The outstanding players among the the trainees will be given an opportunity to join the Chelsea youth team in England, just like they picked Kenneth Omeruo.”

Life as Ojukwu’s P.A – Ejike Asiegbu

As the nation is currently mourning the exit of Biafran warlord and the leader of Ndigbo, Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu (Eze Igbo Gburugburu), one person that is still yet to recover from the shock is Nollywood veteran actor and ex Personal Assistant to Ikemba Nnewi, Ejike Asiegbu. “Ojukwu was humane and meticulous…very thorough and highly principled. He revealed.
The erstwhile president of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has opened up on his relationship with the deceased while working with Ojukwu during and after the 1994 National Constitutional Conference in Abuja 1994.

“My first real encounter with him was in the 80s, when he returned to Nigeria after many years outside the shores of this country. I was the only Nigerian artiste that performed at his reception held at the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu. I was then an undergraduate at the University of Port-Harcourt. Though I was not scheduled to perform but I found out means to convince the organisers why it was necessary for me to perform. They told me they were not going to pay me but I replied that payment wasn’t necessary.

I told them that once my name is announced to Ojukwu that the Ikemba Uniport wants to perform he would be very happy to have me on stage. I told them the inspiration behind my desire to perform… that I flee from Uniport to Lagos because of the programme. At last, I was allowed to perform. At the end of the performance, I made everybody laugh and I thank God that I did not disappoint. I performed excerpts from the historic ‘Aburi Accord” where I recited some of his war speeches.

Ikemba loved it and invited me to his place after that event. We talked and he gave me his numbers and asked that we remain in touch. I stayed in touch until I learnt through an auntie that he wanted me to come and work for him as one of his personal assistants at the height of the constitutional conference of 1994. That was how it began. But in the first place, I grew up reading up everything on Ikemba and I also wanted to be associated with him. Besides, I was also privileged to have been in the same Zodiac sign with him. He was born on November 4 and I was born on November 8. I saw Ikemba as my hero.

On how he received the news of Ojukwu’s demise, the happily married entertainer said: “It was a big blow on me and I was really devastated. It was quite unfortunate that the Ikemba eventually did not survive the illness. He died when many of us thought that he was recuperating and would soon return to the country. Everybody was full of expectation that my idol would return to the country, especially during his birthday, which was marked on November 4.

He celebrated his birthday on his sick bed in London, with his family. He was a father to me, my mentor and a boss. I’m worried and devastated not because, one, we are not unaware that death is a path that everybody must toe, but because the Igbo nation has lost one of its brightest and perhaps, very best leaders. A man who lived and sacrificed his life and happiness for the wellbeing of the Igbo nation.”

“Ikemba was a humane and meticulous being. He was very thorough too and highly principled. I enjoyed the time I spent working with him and I learnt a lot from him. He taught me to be courageous and disciplined. He made me see reasons to always be on the side of truth. One thing about him was that you can’t be lazy and remain around him. In other words you must be proactive to work with Ikemba. Again, you can’t be with Ikemba and your writing and speaking ability will not improve significantly. To work with him, you must be up and doing… no room for laziness, you need to be smart and always on guard, putting on your thinking cap.

You must be prepared to do so many things at the same time and you are also, required to be time conscious. Even in your speech, or writing skill, you needed to be careful, because Ikemba would not take it lightly with you, if you dare make a mistake. He was a man that had his ears on the ground and it only took him a second to point out your mistake. He had a good command of the English language and will correct you if you are not quick at correcting yourself. He was a man that any young person who is positive about life would love to associate with. For me, working with him was the best thing that ever happened in my life. I have worked with so many people in the past, but I must state that working with Ikemba added impetus to my growth in politics. Working with him expanded my horizon and theory as a young promising man and a leader of tomorrow.

I feel happy and humbled that I had a stake with him. I recall that he gave me his blessings when I was going to run for the Presidency of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and he even remarked then that he won’t be surprised if tomorrow I become the President of Nigeria. Indeed my stake with him prepared me for life time career in any endeavour. We love him and will greatly miss him.

I’m also planning a tributes night for him with my Nollywood colleagues.”

Love-gone-sour! I’ve forgiven Timaya – ex lover,Empress Njamah

After a long silence subsequent on her love-gone-sour with BAYELSA-born star, Timaya (The Egberi Papa 1), estranged lover and Nollywood thespian Empress Njamah has finally open up on why they parted ways. The Nigerian-Cameroonian parentage is no way bothered by the ugly stories making round about her, especially her recently alleged nude picture that went viral on the web. She however disclosed that she’d forgiven Timaya for his act.

“We are Africans and we are Nigerians. And people often say our hearts are like our colour. There is something called forgiveness and there is something called forgetting. I would say it is difficult to actually forget a particular incidence that the whole world knows but it is easier to forgive and then if you do not forgive, you have so many things stored in your hearts and it will weigh you down.
”

“
Everybody is aware that the person in that picture was not me; even my brother said he is so sure I am not the one in the picture. The truth is, the girl in the picture looks like me, but the girl is so not me. I don’t even understand why people could be so mean.

It simply doesn’t make any sense. I could show you a lot of chat on the controversial picture; a lot of people were like, “Empress, this is not you so you shouldn’t take it serious.” But not everybody would understand this. I was coming back from a movie scene recently and I had malaria, you know how it feels when you are down. And then, a lot of people kept staring at me and right now I am not even sure why they were staring because I don’t have the usual smiles I used to have on my face. I’m a good person that hardly gets upset or frown but it just got me thinking why they were staring, was it the picture on the internet? During this time, Chioma, a friend of mine who respects me so much, called me on phone to talk about the picture but because of the respect she has for me, she couldn’t tell me about the picture, she was just beating about the bush during the conversation.

I had to call her back and I told her that I knew why she called me and that it was about the picture. The lady replied in a sad tone that she truly called me about the picture but she didn’t know how to tell me. I quickly told her not to sound like she pities me, instead she should be happy and pity whoever was behind the mess because the person is obviously jobless while I am skyrocketing into my blessings. God has blessed me and I am glad. I just can’t fathom how Nigerians think.

I am shocked. Recently, somebody called me to inform me that a lot of people are tagging it on the Internet that I did a blue movie and then I bought a Range Rover jeep. Immediately, I knew she was one of them and I told her she is an idiot. She is the one doing what she reported that people are doing. I don’t know why people don’t understand that blue movies don’t pay.

Blue films gives peanuts and they do it with people who do not have a home. They do it with people who are on the streets, so they can’t even afford to buy the tyre of car. It was so obvious it was coming from the person and I said ‘thank you for pouring out your heart to me.’ l told her I won’t delete her from my Black Berry, I would only pray that God should help her to change. I even said anybody who comes with the original pictures of me nude would get a two million-naira cheque and I mean it, I am not joking.
”

Yes, I even put it in the papers, I’m not joking. A lot of people don’t like to make people happy, but no man can bring me down. Do you understand?

“People still talk about it. Even when I go to church people still make reference to the issue. But I am happy a lot of respectable magazines and newspapers were there when Timaya came to make trouble in the church, we also had plenty people and security around. So, the news was taken genuinely except for the normal gossip magazines that went on to lie because they want to sell.
”

“It’s not something I would like to come out and say myself. I have put it behind me because that moment is just a process of learning. Sometimes, you need to get into a situation where God will be able to teach you before you understand how life is. That’s all gone now; I am into a beautiful and wonderful relationship now. So, I don’t need to remember anything about the past. I’m not going out to sing what is not, a song of shame, a song that does not make sense. I see it as being childish. I could, I could be stupid or childish concerning it probably make a movie about it and I have enough capital to do such movies. But let me tell you the truth of the matter, people knew the real story and that was the most important thing.
”

Okay, let me tell you something about life. If you are nice to people, you are as good as being nice to the world, the world will also be nice to you. What has actually kept me going is the response from people, the response from my loved ones. I don’t know if you understand me, if I have offended so many people, I won’t have the faith to come out. I am nice to a lot of people and a lot of people know what I can do and what I cannot do, if you understand what I mean it is just that I can’t explain this to everyone in the world. So how do I cope? I kneel down to beg God and I said God give me the strength, it is not easy if it was your sister, you all will take the burden, I said God give me the strength to bear this and I get calls from people and I try to feel it, it’s traumatizing and devastating, psychologically it’s really not been good for me but for the love of Christ and for the love of friends and for the love of what I believe in or who I believe in, I keep on moving.
”

The simplest way I can actually answer this question is: there is no way somebody would be doing that without being caught and a tyre would not have been put around his or her neck. So, where did this happen? And let me tell you something, a lot of people don’t like you when you are smiling, they just wake up and cook up a story. It’s normal among people; it is called ‘beef’. So, I don’t believe in them. If you tell me who is telling you these things now, I would call the person and say, “you said this thing, “you accused me”. I take care of so many people and thank God for the wisdom, energy and blessings. Some people are just there to tarnish one’s image. I don’t have an idea of where this came from, I have heard it everywhere, people have tried me and I just laugh. To crown it all, it is the price you pay to be a popular face.
”

Well, life itself is in stages and as human beings we go all through the stages. I always say to myself, I don’t like to complain because I believe God puts you in a situation that makes you understand what it takes to get to the next level. I am not going to be unfair to God by saying I regret this or I regret that. I think they are all learning processes for me. I am not the first person to go into a relationship that was not meant for me and I am not going to be the last. I am not the first person that negative things would be said about in the papers. I am not the first and I am not going to be the last. But with all these, I will not say I have regretted anything about life. I would only say that I have learnt and then without all these I won’t be able to understand where God is actually taking me.

Lagos stands still, bids Ojukwu farewell

The Lagos State Government and prominent citizens of the state gathered at the Tafawa Balewa Square on Thursday to pay their last respect to the late Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Major markets where Nigerians of Igbo extraction plied their trade in Ladipo, Ojuelegba, Ikeja and Ojo areas of the city were shut to honour Ojukwu, whom the traders described as a great leader.

There was a parade of colourful cultural event as men and women in traditional attires took turns to sing and dance in celebration.

Youths in t-shirts bearing the picture of the late All Progressive Grand Alliance leader danced round the TBS.

The ceremony also featured special rendition by the choral group of Prof. Laz Ekweme.

The ceremony, which was organised by the state government for Ojukwu, drew eminent personalities including Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha; his Anambra State counterpart, Peter Obi; former governors of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu; Ndubuisi Kanu and Ubitu Ukiwe; former governor of Ekiti State, Adeniyi Adebayo.

Others are Prof. Pat Utomi, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite, General Adebayo Adeyinka (retd), General Ike Nwachukwu (retd), Senator Uche Chukwumerije, Senator Chris Ngige, Senator Ben Obi, Senator Kalu Idika Kalu, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Prof. Anya Anya and Chief Sunny Odogwu, amongst others.

The state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, said the late Ojukwu led his people to fight the 1967 Nigeria civil war because he loved them and not about the secession of the country.

He said, “He was in pursuit of a just and egalitarian society, rather than chaos and bloodshed. He did not love Nigeria less, he loved his people more.”

Fashola called on Nigerians to focus more on what binds them as one nation rather than on ethnic and religious leanings.

Okorocha said the spirit of Ojukwu would continue to live with the Igbo in Nigeria.

“Ojukwu is alive, not dead; he did not die under the knife, he died a hero. I will not mourn; I will rejoice because Ojukwu exited as a hero,” he said.

Obi, who chose to sing the praises of Ojukwu in his native dialect, said the Igbos would forever remember Ojukwu for giving a voice to the South-East and pushing for justice for the masses.

Braithwaite, who was described as a bosom friend of Ojukwu, said his relationship with Ojukwu dated back to when he was eight years old when they lived just a stone throw from each other in Lagos.

Braithwaite said, “Let me correct the wrong impression that Ojukwu declared war against his fatherland. That is not true; what he declared was war against corruption, lies and injustice.”

He warned those against the call for a Sovereign National Conference to desist, saying Nigerians must be allowed to sit down and discuss the way forward.

Tinubu described Ojukwu as a brave, intelligent and courageous leader who despite being born with silver spoon and having the very best of education, dumped his certificate and joined the army to fight for the people.

He said, “Ojukwu today joins the ranks of late Nnamdi Azikiwe and late Chief Obafemi Awolowo as Nigerians who left their footprints on the sands of time.”

Adebayo said he lived a most fulfilled life and left behind contributions which assured him of a place in the history of Nigeria.

Nwachukwu described Ojukwu as a fine officer who created confidence in those who he came in contact with.

Utomi however invoked the spirit of Ojukwu and urged him to fight for lasting peace and justice in Nigeria.

Chukwumerije said the life and times of Ojukwu mirrored how far Nigeria had come of age.

US group berates Fayemi over arrest of Oni’s media aide

Justice For All Nations (JFAN), a United States of America (USA) based non-governmental organization has berated the governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his Chief of Staff, Mr. Yemi Adaramodu over the arrest of Mr. Lere Olayinka, a journalist and media aide to former governor of the State, Chief Segun Oni.

JFAN said in a statement issued today by its Coordinator, Dr Dada Popoola and made available to journalists online that it was highly disappointed that a governor like Fayemi, who came to power through the instrument of the rule of law could descend to such an ignoble level of using police to harass anyone for criticising him.

The group said it was even more embarrassed with the statement credited to the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye, denying the involvement of the State government in the arrest of Mr. Olayinka, adding that; “Denying such a glaring act of injustice and barbarism is an indication that something fundamental is wrong with the Fayemi-led government, especially in relation to honesty and sincerity.”

“When we first heard it via the social media, we never believed it because apart from Fayemi being a beneficiary of the rule of law, he is also a member of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), a party that prides itself as the promoter of rule of law.

“But reading the newspapers today, we are not only embarrassed, but also surprised at the level a governor like Fayemi could go in his bid to silence the opposition.

“It is highly embarrassing, and there is no how Fayemi can defend this action other than to tender a public apology for acting like a dictator in a democracy.

“Most importantly, the same Adaramodu, who was said to have written the petition that led to the arrest of Mr. Olayinka was not arrested by former governor Segun Oni when he (Adaramodu) was using the media to fabricate lies against the person of Oni and his government.

“Again, for the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye to have denied the involvement of the State government in an act over which functionaries of the government, including the Chief Security Officer were present at the police station is to say the least, shameful!

“Therefore, we wish to urge Fayemi to bury his pride and tender and unreserved apology to Mr. Olayinka and the people of Ekiti that the he (Fayemi) has ridiculed,” JFAN said.

Rihanna and Chris Brown upcoming remix to “Birthday Cake”

It is no longer news that Rihanna and Chris Brown have something going on between them. The latest information indicates that the feature artist on Rihanna’s upcoming remix to “Birthday Cake” is none other then ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown.
According to sources, Chris Brown not only laced the track, he will also appear in the music video. Brown reportedly sings and rhymes on the track which will be released next week.
Chris Brown and Rihanna were seen leaving, at separate time, the West Hollywood studio where the remix was recorded.Co-producers of “Birthday Cake,” Da Internz – comprised of Kosine and
Tuo – hinting on the collaboration said that the cameo on the track would “shock the world.”
The icing on the cake is that Brown did indeed attend Rihanna’s 24th birthday celebration on the night of February 13. Sources say the singers came together and were close the entire night.
Prior to this latest development, reports were rife that the pop star and singer/rapper, who ended their relationship after Brown assaulted Rihanna in early 2009, have been privately hooking up for nearly a year.
Multiple sources also confirmed that the pair has been casually meeting up, even though Brown is currently dating model Karrueche Tran.
On February 8, 2009, Brown was charged with two felonies stemming from a brutal attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna that took place in his car. Both singers were scheduled to perform at the 2009 Grammys later that evening, and both performances were canceled.
Brown was sentenced to five years’ probation and six months’ community labor in Aug. 2009. A court order that forbid Brown from coming within 50 yards of Rihanna was lifted last February and in May, the pair began following each other on Twitter. “Its f—-in twitter, not the alter [sic]! calm down,” Rihanna told upset fans at the time.

Boko Haram attacks IGP residence in Kano

The Boko Haram sect on today launched an attacked on the new Inspector-General of Police [IGP], Mohammed Abubakar along BUK road in the ancient city of Kano.

The new attack came barely 24 hours after its latest assault on Nigeria’s second largest city.

The group, according to eyewitnesses attacked some quarters along BUK road in the city metropolis and which the residence of the IGP was not left out.

Meanwhile, gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members on Wednesday night killed two policemen in Lapai, Niger State.

“The gunmen who rode on a motorcycle shot and killed two policemen watching over a highway and sped away,” police spokesman for Niger State Command, Richard Oguche told AFP.

He said the gunmen were suspected to be part of a gang that raided a prison and freed 119 inmates in nearby Kogi State last week.

The group claimed it was behind the jail break to free seven of its detained members.

Authorities said at least 25 of the detainees were later captured.

“We believe the attack was in response to the re-arrest of their comrades they set free in the prison raid,” Oguche said.
